My aim was to create a contemporary cover that conveys a lighthearted feeling, combining the elements that the client requested in their brief. I drew a silhouette of the author from a photo that she provided, and used blue - teal tones for the background with a subtle mandala element. For the title and author name i chose a script font that i manipulated in order to add an original touch to it, by making the words connected at some point, and the end lines continuing outside the frame.

My first thought when i read the brief was to play with the meaning of the title by creating an illusion of two faces merging together into one. The choice of a rough, brush font was meant to add emotional impact to the final layout.

When creating this design, I wanted to give the western appeal while trying to give it a modern approach. I incorporated some of the aspects they wanted such as the spider and wolves. I used a desert-style background and a modern day cowboy to give the western feel while utilizing the darker sky to give off the mystery tone of the book.

There were 13 years of drafts, stories, and collages by the author. The sky was something she could talk to; the dark of night and the blue of day had inspired her since she was a child. Like the author, I immersed myself in her imagination, proposing various layouts. A very characteristic book and a strong aesthetic coming from the author were made with the photo she chose.
