A simple visual that makes folks want to pick up the book and read it. Old timey charm! The title comes from the fact that the main character throws a handful of coffee outside of the mine every time he enters hoping he will be protected by a dark spirit. He got the idea from reading National Geographic. Miners in Bolivia give offerings to Satan because he "rules" the underworld. At the end, He realizes that he doesn't need to give any offering because he can stand up for himself.

Author wanted for the design a picture of a lone highland cow looking out over a misty Scottish lake, mountains framing the sides. About the story: "It takes place at the end of the 16th century, during the North Berwick witch hunts. John Fian is in love with a local farmer’s daughter, and reluctantly makes a deal with the Devil for her love. Through a misunderstanding, the farmer’s cow falls in love with him instead. Though the story is humorous for the most part, it is based on actual events and doesn’t have a happy end, as witch hunts rarely do. While the idea of a cow falling in love is funny in itself, I think the cover image should convey some atmosphere of loneliness, loss, or sadness."
