I created an illustration of one of the story's principle locations, a city on a floating island. To make sure the first impression is clear, I made the illustration of the floating island emblematic and stylized, with favella-like buildings as well as an emphasis on its function as a sky port and the docking air ships.
To further hint at the steampunk-pirate-theme of the novel, I included subtle background graphics of a skull, pipes and gears.")

The client requested a hexagon structure of ice crystals that radiate positive energy, fuelled by inner spiritual strength.
I created the hexagon structure as a 3D model to replicate the look of water and ice and combined the result with the other visual elements in Photoshop.")

The company name - Data Glue - is represented through the client's vision of a futuristic glue gun connecting various different modules and sub-problems of data analysis. I went for a sleek, shiny design for the gun and the individual parts, and a energetic, futuristic glue. I created the scene in 3D, which allowed me to easily create variations for the client, such as repositioning the objects or trying out different materials and lighting effects.")
