ALOHA! Elchi Chai Shop needs designs for their packaged tea and spices. They wrote: our brand is unique because we advocate real chai, not chai tea/lattes. Our product is made up of a strong black loose leaf tea (sourced from Kenya) and two types of spice mixes, a cardamom mix, and a masala mix. For the perfect cup of chai, customers need to buy the black tea and one or both spices mix (depending on preference). This tea is not instant and it meant to be made in a pot on the stove with water and milk. It was important that the designs reflect the information to understand that this is a kit and they wanted the consumer to easily read the packaging. We wanted to have a design reflecting elegance, a touch of premium, high-end, a bit hip, and earth color according to the products. In the pile I would like weighted plates (45lbs, 35lbs, 25lbs) scattered all around, a couple Olympic bar with and without weighted plates on each side, kettlebells (of different weight), dumbbells (different weights), medicine balls, physio balls, resistance bands, weight benches, plyometric boxes, jump ropes and a squat rack in the background. Each piece of equipment except for the squat rack can be repeated as many times as you want. Just want the look of a lot of equipment in a huge pile.

A detailed logo was made as an illustration where a cow is the protagonist and her horns are formed by a huge moon. Cactus adorn the scene to make a reference to the state of Texas.

The main work of “Mt Zion Kids” is to organize activities for children. The request was to design an image to be placed at the top zone of their Homepage, to catch the attention of the viewers and also to represent what they do. Although they had a lot of photos of their activities, it was decided to create an illustration, in order to avoid showing pictures of real kids for safety reasons. The groups of children in the illustration show some of the activities that are developed in this place. My main objective was to give very happy face expressions to the characters, as well as a vibrant color scheme, to convey a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. The process started by sketching each group of characters in paper. Then, they were all placed together in Adobe Illustrator, where the drawing was created with just black strokes. The final stage was entirely made in Photoshop, adding all the colors, lights, effects and the background landscape.

This is a children’s book that tells the story of Inky, a boy with a “special power”: he makes people happy by touching them with his index finger. But there is one drawback. Every time he touches someone, he leaves behind a small Inky tattoo, like an "i" inside a circle. This is the first book in the series, where the boy tries to learn how he can make people happy without touching them, because none of his friends want any more Inky tattoos. Until he meets Pinky. She's always sad so Inky tries his super power on her. And guess what? It doesn't work on her. I created the illustration for this design, following the examples and descriptions given by the author, to perfectly match with the two main characters in the story. The vibrant colors were chosen not only to catch the attention of the children but also to transmit a joyful and positive atmosphere.

This project was made to create all the elements of the first title in the “Is it true?” book series: cover design, layout/typesetting and all illustrations. The series is designed to help children going through hard life experiences, by teaching them how to take ownership over their thoughts and feelings. After some sketches and ideas about each character’s appearance, their personality was found. I gave them a cute and friendly look, but without the lines of a very childish drawing, mainly due to the large age range of the readers. Although all illustrations were created digitally, I used textures that relate them to the “traditional drawings” made on paper. Some simulate watercolors, others look more like colored pencils. This lends a certain innocence to the images, which help to lighten the story’s theme: Divorce. I avoided dark tones for the same reason. Keeping the colors vibrant, but not too strong, also made the text stand out to better convey such important messages.
