LOGO DESIGN: A well thought-out and executed mark
Logo design service
//. BEFORE WE START
1. Feel free to request this Service, but please *do not* secure payment on the auto-generated invoice. I am selective in the projects I take on. Let's discuss first.
2. Please only request this Service if you're serious about working with me. I'm not interviewing for a position or seeking advice on my process. My portfolio is proof of my capabilities.
3. I can only connect via video call to clients who have secured funding on 1-to-1 projects. I get too many inquiries otherwise. Please explain your project first in text. If I accept and payment is secured, we can then connect via Zoom or Meet, if you prefer to work that way.
//. THIS SERVICE
I lean towards — and prefer — projects open to abstract and conceptual approaches, and I only take on projects that interest me. You can get a feel for my range by taking a careful look at my portfolio. I am a fan of efficiency.
In terms of working procedures, I need you to be communicative. Information, to a designer, constitutes a landscape. We need to approach this together.
Normal turnaround would be 7 days. I need and will take time to contemplate and think, and let ideas arise naturally. We’re talking about the primary identity of entities within an often brutal market. I aim to create weapons and defences. Tools that will ground and raise the ceiling of potential of your business or project. Primarily, this is what design does: it elevates.
Final logos are presented in industry standard printable formats, along with a guide on fonts and color schemes used.
If you’re ready, let’s get to work.
Service includes:
— Logo design
Three (3) concepts and two (2) refinements on the chosen concept. Additional concepts are available for an added $500 per concept.
Additional refinements are available for an added $100 per refinement.
//. ABOUT ME
10+ years experience as a designer, working with hundreds of clients. Distinctive vision. 15+ years experience as a senior editor with Egypt's flagship broadsheet. Formal qualifications: BA (1:1), MA (Distinction) and PhD. I have taught in universities on four continents, including Brown University as a Fulbright scholar. Resident in Cairo 23 years.
//. WHY WORK DIRECT?
Here’s the truth: Contests are a terrible way to source design. Why? Because designers don’t have time to invest when they work for free. You will get 5% of their mental energy at best, recycling existing designs without pause or thought. It’s Whac-A-Mole. In direct projects, where funds are secured, you get 100%. You get a designer invested in your company, its story, its strategic success, and its image. If you care about your company, work direct.
What you will get
TERMS & CONDITIONS:
Clients indicate that they agree to the following on securing a given project invoice:
— In all projects, unless agreed and budgeted in advance, my design services are based on offering three (3) design concepts or directions from which one (1) is to be chosen as the accepted design. I may provide more than three designs, but fulfilling the service offering is based on presenting a maximum of three (3) design concepts. Design concepts or directions refer to unique designs. Premium packages, where a larger number of initial concepts are presented, are available to clients with appropriate budgets. Please ask if you need more than three (3) options. Additional design concepts are available for an added fee of one third of the cost of the project per concept.
— Concepts or directions may be presented sequentially or all together. If all designs are presented together, there is no second round of fresh designs. Feedback relates to specific designs, not to a group of designs. If delivered sequentially, and if the first concept is declined, a second will be presented, and finally a third. If no design is accepted, further design concepts are billable separately as described, and will be undertaken at my sole discretion. After the service offering has been fulfilled (i.e., when three (3) design directions have been presented), it is within my sole discretion whether to continue or not.
— With a chosen design concept, I will provide up to three (3) revisions. Further revisions are billable separately and are discretionary. Revisions are not guesses. If you want something revised, you must say what it is specifically that should be revised.
— I believe in the division of labor between designer and non-designer. I am a designer not because I learned the software, but because I have vision. Only clients who are interested in that vision, and in deploying it for their brand, should engage my design services. I can read my own mind, but not yours. You know more about your business than I will ever know. We come together to share our expertise, and design is mine.
— In the event a client doesn't like any design presented in the project, the project will be closed and paid in full, unless I agree to create additional designs, which are billable separately as described. I make no commitment to work until a design emerges that the client likes. Your risk is that you may have to accept my vision for your brand. My risk is assumed in the time it takes to work on and present that vision. I do not issue refunds simply because disagreement emerges with the client on what is good design. My portfolio stands as a reference point, giving assurance of the quality of the work the client can expect. But the client must acknowledge that design is a subjective art. My time, however, is concrete and limited, and cannot be retrieved.
— In the event of a change in business name mid-project, the client agrees to pay the open project in full, whether it reached completion or not. A business name change essentially resets any work previously done. This cost will be met by the client.
— Secured payments are non-refundable. For any reason other than the designer's failure to meet the service terms described above, no refund will be issued and no rights to any work done within the project will be transferred. In the event of a full or partial refund initiated by the designer, the client accepts that the project was not completed and waives the review of the project. Honest reviews for completed projects are welcomed.
— Turnaround refers to the average time taken rather than a commitment that all work is completed within that time. If you have firm deadlines, communicate them. Project duration may not exceed 21 days from time of securing payment. Any project that exceeds 21 days must be paid in full, completed or not. After 21 days, further work will be billable separately at 20% of the project cost per calendar week and will be undertaken on a discretionary basis.
— Rush projects will be considered at a 30% premium on top of the standard service price of the project.
— I retain the right to reproduce, publish and display deliverables from 1-to-1 projects in my portfolios, websites, and other media or exhibits for the purposes of recognition of creative excellence and/or professional advancement, and to be credited with authorship of the deliverables in connection with such uses.
— Private projects will be considered but must be agreed in advance of securing payment on a project. Private projects are charged at a 30% premium on top of the price of the project.
— Final files are print ready in CMYK color scheme. All fonts are converted to outline. Editable source files can be provided to clients that have licensed versions of any fonts used, and where the client has a licensed version of the design software used. As of 2020, I mostly work in Serif's Affinity Suite. Export of editable Adobe Illustrator source files will be discretionary and billed separately.
