WORDPRESS: 10-page web design and development
WordPress theme design service
//. BEFORE WE START
1. Feel free to request this Service, but please *do not* secure payment on the auto-generated invoice. I am selective in the projects I take on. Let's discuss first.
2. Please only request this Service if you're serious about working with me. I'm not interviewing for a position or seeking advice on my process. My portfolio is proof of my capabilities.
3. I can only connect via video call to clients who have secured funding on 1-to-1 projects. I get too many inquiries otherwise. Please explain your project first in text. If I accept and payment is secured, we can then connect via Zoom or Meet, if you prefer to work that way.
//. THIS SERVICE
This service is for full Wordpress-based website design and development. The deliverable is a Wordpress-based site, live, on your server.
Let’s break this down.
I've been building sites since 1996. I have built and managed 50+ sites in various server environments, including medium high traffic sites fielding 700,000+ unique visits per month.
In 2010, I started to focus only on Wordpress as advances in that framework allowed me to design more and code less. The last Wordpress theme I had to write from the ground up was in 2011. This was a conscious choice. The simple fact is that there are artists in code as there are artists in other fields. There is no need to reinvent the wheel every time. I assess and deploy the best code and go directly to the design and build stage. This also makes site development affordable to a greater range of clients.
The introduction of page building plugins like Visual Composer changed the nature of website development in Wordpress, freeing hybrid developer-designers like me to focus on the frontend while giving backend usability, post-handover, to clients. Now, you don’t need to hire a permanent in-house developer to maintain and update your site. With guidance, and the right setup established by someone with experience, you can do it yourself without pain.
Skipping the pure graphical design stage is also a choice. I protect clients from exorbitant developer fees based on designs created by those unfamiliar with the Wordpress ecology, and I save clients from substandard post-handover experiences with sites that need to be updated with semantic HTML.
So, I take my code knowledge and design sensibility and roll these into one product: a finished and live site, with ease of use to industry standards, and a focus on visitor experience.
I design in-browser, locally under Valet+, and based either on Apache or Nginx, depending on what would best suit your needs. Via advanced caching techniques, including Memcached, Varnish, and content distribution network (Cloudflare, MaxCDN, Amazon) integration, my goal is not only to deliver a fabulous looking site, but to arrive to an optimised server environment and code base that allows you to present rich content with page loading speeds of 3s or less in most cases.
If you have questions, get in touch. Or if you’re ready, let’s get to work.

//. WHY WORK DIRECT?
Here’s the truth: Contests are a terrible way to source design. Why? Because designers don’t have time to invest when they work for free. You will get 5% of their mental energy at best, recycling existing designs without pause or thought. It’s Whac-A-Mole. In direct projects, where funds are secured, you get 100%. You get a designer invested in your company, its story, its strategic success, and its image. If you care about your company, work direct.
What you will get
I have expert knowledge of Wordpress, including the ecology of add-in functionality provided by the developer community. I also follow web trends closely, and know how to deliver, on budget, compelling and arresting designs that also render responsively across multiple viewports and devices.
I will walk you through the entire process, from domain registration, host server requirements, server setup, design orientation, to post-handover updating and maintenance.
The service price referenced above is a baseline price for sites of 10 pages +/-. As each web project is different and may have different functionality demands, each project is assessed at the beginning with a cost estimate provided if it would exceed the referenced baseline cost of the service. The timeline is also a guide, as site development can take additional weeks depending on functionality demands and complexity, as well as the volume of content to add.
The service is based on one round of substantial design revisions, though I usually will provide more if warranted. The preparation process I’d walk you through should minimise the need for substantial revisions: my goal is to hit your target first time.
TERMS & CONDITIONS:
Clients indicate that they agree to the following on securing a given project invoice:
— As standard, I retain the right to reproduce, publish and display deliverables from 1-to-1 Projects in my portfolios, websites, and other media or exhibits for the purposes of recognition of creative excellence and/or professional advancement, and to be credited with authorship of the deliverables in connection with such uses.
- Private projects will be considered but must be agreed in advance of securing payment. Private projects are charged at a 30% premium on top of the standard service price of the project.
— The client agrees that in the event a project is canceled for any reason other than the designer's failure to comply with the terms set forth, no refund will be issued and no rights will be transferred.
