Congrats bender well done!!!
Excuse me but...what is happening from 8 days went to 4 then 2 and now again 4 so..some clue please?
Any news on this contest?
We've moved to the final round, and the judges are evaluating the designs. The finalists have some very different thinking about what makes a bar code reader - it is GREAT to see some barcode scanners that are unconventional!!!
It is our intent to publish an article with at least one picture for each finalist, with a link to his/her Facebook page or website. We hope you will get attention and respect for your work.
If you do not want the exposure, please let me know and we will honor that. If you DO want to be in the article, please let me know that too - and send me the link to your website or Facebook page. My direct email is ca@barcode.com. Thank you all for participating. Those of you who have made it to the finals have created something that has captured the imagination of the judges! Well done!
MY ENTRY #53 IS A BAR CODE SCANNER IN A FORM OF A BASEBALL. IT CAN BE USED TO VERIFY IF THE TICKET HOLDER HAS A REAL BASEBALL TICKET AND NOT A FAKE ONE. THEREFORE WITH THIS SCANNER IT WILL ALERT THE EVENT CHECKER.
It'll be great if you make it blind. it's a great contest :D
Gaius,
Patent wars have been going on in the barcode industry for three decades. If you do a little research you'll find that they are still making headlines just in the last ten days. It is neither simple or nor easy to patent something in this niche. Nor cheap to defend or enforce the patent.
The profit margins continue to be driven down due to intense competition among vendors and to the easy interchangability of the product.
In short, it is important to be realistic about the potential for the value of a design.
My hope is that designs here will stimulate more new ideas and innovation in the industry. I don't make or sell bar code readers - but I promote the technology by publishing a magazine about it. Visit http://www.barcode.com - The Bar Code News.
Gaius:
indeed what you say is true. and I agree. But in my opinion the best for each contest is an obligation for the designer. when we follow the contest on 99designs, we already know the rules. For any copyright or any copying product that has a right of CH. At the beginning of the contest, I saw an opportunity to achieve something better with a more open system of agreements to work together again in the future. What now we are trying our best to contest. And I am sure, whoever wins will be getting better opportunities. it menueurt me. I do not know if you agree with my thinking.

Whoever takes your design knows for a fact they can make hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions from it when all that SHOULD be yours.(no offense to the contest holder);)
To all designers/inventors, you do realize you can get a patent for your design right? and collect royalty for life instead of a one time 200.00.
If your new scanner invention sells and is marketed worldwide, x's how many of your units would sell for x-amount for one yr. = millions on up.
Think about it... I see some awesome inventions here for the future of bar scanning. (Protect your invention/ideas for the REAL money)
If you need professional innovative ideas I think you will need to increase the prize a bit. Just my opinion!
hmm using designs from this contest in an article before the contest is not finished is not very ethical IMHO, designers might want to withdrawn entries still...
Better wait with that article until this is finished, I think.
Sir Please check my Design and don't for got the feedback....
Thanks
Extend contest please
Hello all - I have asked 99designs to extend the contest and I am waiting for them to do so. Once they do that, you will be able to post more designs.
