I used my own article header rather than the author's as I wanted this illustration for my portfolio and it would have been bad form to use their title if I'd not won. Depicts: a map of the old world with ancestral humans moving in migratory groups. The article is about gut microbes and what they can tell us about human migrations, and the environments they encountered that affected their diets. I've tried to keep it artsy yet informative, with arrows pointing in the direction actual populations moved.

This design was created for Prolific Machines, a biotech company pioneering photomolecular biology. Their technology uses red and blue light to precisely control how cells function, enabling the creation of therapeutic proteins, cultured meat, and more. The brief requested a bold, psychedelic T-shirt that blends sci-fi tech with surreal, organic imagery. Inspired by Moebius, Roger Dean, and Jason Galea, I envisioned a glowing bioreactor as a sacred space-temple. Red and blue light form pulsating vines that grow alien fruits — each symbolizing a product made possible by their technology. Rising above it all is the company logo, radiating like a synthetic sun. The artwork combines vivid retro colors and layered detail to convey the theme “illuminating biology’s limitless potential.” Designed for screen printing on white or tie-dye fabric, it’s meant to feel like a band shirt — bold, strange, and unforgettable.

A chain of RNA should extend from within the capsid.

For this scientific journal cover concept, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience wanted to illustrate their finding that action potentials vary along different parts of a single neuron’s axon. The design draws inspiration from Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album cover art, translating its waveform aesthetic into a scientific context by tracing the structure of a real neuron. A subtle cyan–magenta channel‑shift effect reinforces the idea of fluctuating electrical signals along the axon and gives the illustration a vibrant, energetic feel.
