We now have the somewhat unenviable task of narrowing the field down to FIVE designs. Once that's done, those five designs will be voted on by the community here at 99designs and the winner takes all!

To the designers: A couple more things I'd like to point out...

Try not to use a TV to symbolize our Film Festival. For our purposes, these are two completely different industries. When you think Film, think of things that relate to movies on the big screen.

When we refer to our conferences, both internally and externally, we do so in this order: Music, Film and Interactive. If you incorporate the names of our conferences into your design sequentially, use this order.

Some Insight Into Our Process

These are some things we are taking into account when rating/eliminating a design:

Is it obvious that the designer read the brief?
Does it take into account the limitations of traditional screen printing?
Does it look polished? Is there obvious attention to detail or was it just slapped together?
Is the design creative and unique? Is it eye-catching? Is there an obvious concept behind the design or is the "cool factor" the design's main appeal? (either concept or cool is fine)
Is the design something we think our attendees would like and therefore purchase?

Some further explanation:
If your design is eliminated without feedback, it is simply because it is not what we're looking for. While we would like to give feedback to every design, due to the large number of submissions, this will not be possible. We are focusing our feedback on the designs that are already on the right track. If no action has been taken on your design, it's because we are still in the process of making a decision about it.

Right now, the star rating system is mostly for internal use. Only one contest administrator is allowed, so there is one person who rates designs and gives feedback based on the input of the SXSW Art Director and Designers. If a design has any stars, that means we think it's a viable design. The number of stars shows just how viable. As we begin to solicit input from the rest of the people involved in our merchandise efforts, we will direct them to look only at the starred designs.

Everyone who has a design starred has gotten very detailed feedback, specific to their design. We did not realize that other designers couldn't see that feedback. It would be helpful if they could because it gives insight into why we favor their design. We will try to compose something that gives further insight into what we're looking for and add it to the brief or post it here.

As for the designs that remain but are not starred, either they have not been looked at or we are still in the process of determining their status.

We would absolutely love to give feedback for every design, and I agree with you, everyone deserves it. We have been advised to give detailed feedback only on those designs which are already headed in the right direction, and at the moment that is our plan. We absolutely appreciate everyone's effort. As designers ourselves, we know what this is like, and it is not easy to have a design rejected without an explanation. For here on, we will try to give an explanation when a design is eliminated, time permitting.
