- Brief Overview
-
3D Illusions is a startup software company which is using technology found in 'next generation' video games and applying this technology to commercial applications initially in the architecture, landscape and interior design space. High levels of realism are achieved by applying realistic materials and lighting to our models.
Our flagship product LiveDesign will allow professionals and consumers to design houses, interiors and landscapes in a realistic , interactive 3D environment.
The name 3D Illusions refers to software that allows people to create realistic three-dimensional representations of real-world objects (such as buildings, building interiors, cars, people). The “illusion” refers to the fact that the objects appear realistic, but in fact are represented fictitiously as a 3D model.

-
Architects, Interior Designers, Landscape Designers (professionals) and the general public (e.g. amateur drafting, renovations, refurbishment). Future products may widen the audience.
- Requirements
-
The logo should be Typographic or Symbolic. A typographic logo containing a symbol would also be a good option, because the symbol could be used in isolation once the company becomes more established but I don't want to constrain the designs.
The logo needs to have an element that looks three dimensional, but it also needs to look good in monotone (e.g. faxes, b&w prints etc.) so my preference would be that the logo in it’s most basic form is only a single colour (or maybe two contrasting colours) and does not contain gradients or shadows in its most basic form.
I have not decided on any colour considerations for my logo but this may become more evident during the design phase.
I would like to use the concept that MC Escher used in his picture "Day and Night" where he uses the gaps/shadows of the white birds to show some black birds.
e.g. http://britton.disted.camosun.bc.ca
I am thinking that the logo should consist of the typeface "3D Illusions" in a sans serif font.
I would like the motif part of the logo being a "flock of birds" expressed as a silhouette flying away from the 3D Illusions upward and to the right. I would like the birds to form an arrow shape with the leading bird by itself, followed by a couple in the next row and more in the next row etc. (because this is the way they naturally fly). The spaces/shadows formed by the "white birds" should form a flock of "black birds" flying back into the 3D illusions.
Additionally I would like the flock to appear to be coming out of the page slightly, in that the leading birds will appear larger that those closest to the 3D illusions.
I know this is a fairly radical deviation of the designs that have been submitted. I also know that this is more complicated and requires some effort to complete the design so I am prepared to increase the prize money and the duration of the competition and will even guarantee the prize money once I can see that we have concepts that hit the mark.
Good luck!
