The novel centers around the ancestors of a woman accused of being a witch who was burned to death in the 17th century. The story is set in the current day, where the decedents of the so-called witch find themselves caught up in a modern-day witch hunt. So it's a sort of British folk-horror, rather than straight up horror. The title 'The Crow Tree' relates to the tree where the witch was burned. Crows were said to have feasted on her corpse. The eyes work for me because they evoke the tears of the executed witch (and countless other women put to death for the same reason). The tree is a leafless, gnarled rowan on a hillside above a forest.")
