It is set in two different times: Chicago in the 1950s and Arizona in 2019.
The starting point of the design was the desert painting. In fact, I did it in a way that simulates the technic and texture of the paint and, to make it more real, I also added some brushes on the side, as if they were placed on the book itself.
As the artistic theme is a central point of the story, I gathered in this painting several “key details” that are quite important to the plot. The elements at the top of the cover make reference to Italian food, one of the “unexpected” and funny aspects in the story.
The Chicago painting is presented as a symbolic representation of the past: the old photograph that brings the memories of the 1950s. It is a detail of a real painting created by Anne Marie Cina, who granted permission to the author to include it on the back cover.")

The goal was here is to showhing the method how the damasc steel borns in an aristic way. This symbolism of the four elements of nature and the elements that the blacksmith use along the process:
EARTH - The iron ore comes from the dirt, WIND - The whirling wind from the desert which brings sand, and ignites the FIRE - Which melting the iron ore, and WATER - here is represented with the blue sky.
Today, very few people still attempt to make steel with this method and instead rely on factory produced steel bars that are rolled to perfection and have little to no impurities in it. The steel made in this traditional method has a lot of character and visual identity of a Damascus steel bar. I tried to catch this moment on the poster.")

I came up with a simple, but intricate, desert-themed design, focused on an emblem featuring the “Delicate Arch”. Other elements include scorpions, snakes, cacti, cattle skulls, the sun, and the moon, as well as simple flourishes.
The color palette is bivariate and based around red/burnt orange and a warm tan. The type is a simple, hand-drawn sans serif that naturally fits into the design.")

The main goal was to present a rustic house in the west with its surroundings to bring the whole feel closer to the viewer.
It`s all there: The nice old cozy house, the cactuses in the desert with the desert rocks rising above it in the distance, the negative space of the mountains behind, and the sun above all of the elements on the top pictured as red half-circle behind the mountains.
