They were created for a YA dystopian romance set in parallel universes. The author wanted to have that sense of duality represented in the design, but in a way that it would be completely clear that the first book was set in our current universe, and the second one in a dystopian universe at the same place.
As one of the details from this dystopian universe was that all trees were dead, I used the image of two massive trees as the main focal point. They helped to represent the differences between those two worlds, also intensified by the different color schemes.
The poses of the girl (main character in the story) also reinforce the titles of each book: a static pose for “Here” and a moving/running pose for “There”.")

An international crew embarks on a flight to Mars, when they’re awaken by the emergency protocol. The chaos and destruction reign on board, making impossible to complete the mission to their final destination... or even to return to Earth. The journey into nothingness begins.
Apart from requiring a spaceship with a specific shape, damaged and with visible signs that would represent the unfortunate events, the client also wanted to convey the impression that the ship was drifting and completely lost in space.
Therefore, I decided to place it in a certain way (in the diagonal) in order to give a sense of instability, to better represent its critical situation while is being destroyed and outside of its route.
The effects that I gave to the title also reinforce that destruction, where the metal appears scratched and burned.

As the story is set in the North Pole, the author requested a very colorful and wintery atmosphere with vibrant tones of blue and cyan, that could catch the attention of the viewers.
As the book is meant not just for kids but also for their adult family members, it was decided to follow a more realistic approach, instead of a cartoon style.
The three main characters — a giant horse, a cowboy and a small elf — are the focal point of the entire illustration that I created for this cover. This illustration was entirely made in Photoshop, with several versions until it was reached the desired result.
The main challenge was to represent those characters with all the details that were described in the text and still make them appropriate for a children’s audience. The vibrant colors were a big help to achieve that goal.")

The story is set in the year 2033, when humanity considers itself the crown of creation. It’s only then that Earth reveals its innermost, bringing the island of Capri to a terrible inferno… which changes the world forever.
The author requested the representation of one of the main scenes, when an immense white energy beam comes from the deeps of the Earth in the direction of a distant planet.
Having this scenery in mind, I decided to place the two planets in a position that would allow the energy beam to cross the main title. Apart from achieving a very symmetrical balance in the entire design, this was also meant to give a very curious detail, where the beam seems to pass right through the vertical line of the letter “P”.")

The cover was made to catch the curiosity of the viewers and to transmit a sense of mystery and fear, but without revealing too much of the story.
In book 2, “Hollow’s Eve”, the brutal murder of a young man is committed in the woods. While investigating, the detective’s fingerprints are found riddled throughout the crime scene.
This is one of the most important details of the story that will influence the course of the events. That’s why it was included a fingerprint in a large scale that merges with the background.

The client requested a design that could reflect the book title with a female face partly covered by a veil, where the eyes, looking straight at the viewer, would become the central point of attention.
The simple typography chosen and the warm red color also helped to create the atmosphere that was intended, making even a better connection with the book genre.
The golden tone given to some texts also added a detail of sophistication to the entire book cover, as well as they helped to alternate the paragraphs that describe each story in the back cover.
As this is the first book in a series, the design was also thought having in mind a consistent graphic line throughout all the future books.")

The design was created following the original vision of the author that already had in mind the inclusion of very specific elements.
The main objective was to lean more on the “mystery” side of the story, which revolves around a murder and disappearance. Therefore, instead of showing the main characters, the design presents some objects that have an important role or that give some clues about the development of the plot.
The roses were one of the details that required a special attention. They couldn’t be too bright or too perfect. So, I made them all different: from the one that is still bright and fresh, to the other that opens its petals, and all the others that start to wilt and die… exactly like the several stages of a life.")

It was created for a cautionary tale about what America is becoming. This science fiction book is a sort of metaphor for what is happening in our society, bringing the excitement and intrigue of paranormal and spiritual discovery, together with a supernatural battle between spiritual forces in an age of advanced technology and cultural shifting.
As it is set in San Francisco, the client required a clear skyline of the buildings of the city, from which a giant violet construction stands out, not only by its size but also by the different appearance and materials.
The major challenge was precisely to represent that giant building in a way that could show its different nature, following the descriptions on the book — “some kind of magnetic force field, not glass or steel”.")

I designed a stylized raven to incorporate in the main zone of the shield, very much in the style of the ancient heraldic and tribal symbols. The main challenge was to have the eye right at the center, making it almost “alive”. This also helped to represent the shield as something special and unique.
The other request of the author was to have a nautical feel, as most of the book takes place at sea or in port.")

The request was to represent her as a sophisticated and powerful character, but that could also transmit a sense of sensuality, which is one of the more important aspects of this author’s books.
The draped fabrics on the photos, as well as the particular blue tone that was chosen, helped to achieve the requested style, as well as to keep a consistency in all the books of this series.")

The diagonal form of the buildings gives a great depth to the cover, also helped by the running man and the strong light at the end of the street. This contrast between zones of light and shadow was made to create impact and transmit a sense of mystery.
Since the story has to do with the malicious, mesmerizing effect of a presence on social media, the author wanted to include some kind of electronic device (mobile, tablet or computer).
However, I also added some details as a watermark, like the circular grid with the zero and one numerals, in order to have a certain \"technological atmosphere\".
Another of the requests was to create the design with a blue/gray palette with gold highlights, since this is a color combination that can attract the public of this book genre.")

There is also a detail in the back cover that appears in all the books of this series — the inclusion of some hairdresser instruments, to better make the connection with the main theme.")

This is a story about the search for a magic sword, which needed to figure prominently on the cover. The descriptions of the author leaded to a Viking style, with a touch of horror and almost alien feel.
In the design I wanted to transmit that the sword had special characteristics, a unique piece, that would seem almost “alive”.
However it wasn’t easy to decide where the main details should be placed, in order to keep it “usable”, as it were a real sword that is meant to be handled and strong enough to fight a battle.
The eyes in the background and the big red moon helped to give the desired impact.")

As this is the first book of a set of several new series, the author requested a slight different approach, in relation to what had already been done on the previous books, as long as it would fit her already very well known brand.
When I made the research of the publishing design trends within this genre I noticed that, whenever there's a cover with an image in a big scale, it stands out from the others in an incredible way, specially when they have a face looking at the viewer.
I immediately remembered how the eyes of the models (and a particular gaze) is one of the details that identify so many of this author’s books — the direct look at the reader, that catches the attention and also seduces, is almost her trademark.")
