Description of the organization and its target audience
I make and sell video courses on the Phoenix web framework using the Elixir programming language. Our target audience is technologists of all levels who want to get started programming or further their knowledge.

Other notes
The target audience will likely be very familiar with the technologies that we will be using in our video content. In particular, the Elixir programming language (see colors and style at https://elixir-lang.org) and the Phoenix web framework (see colors and style at https://phoenixframework.org/). Both of those have strong and recognizable visual identities include colors.
I don't know if it would be helpful or hurtful or neutral to call back to those colors and visual styles but I would love to see some designs that perhaps have their own visual identity. I think it would be difficult or confusing to have my own phoenix bird that "competes" against the Phoenix Framework phoenix bird logo.
I've attached the corresponding logos.
I've see some good concepts with phoenix birds in the logo. I would actually love to see some more submissions that communicates more with the shapes of the letters themselves (even potentially exlcuding a bird entirely). What if you used the idea of video tutorials in the logo? Maybe programming? Building digitally?
One thing I thought about today is that one of the things that makes the Elixir programming language pretty unique is an operator that is a pipe "|" followed by a close angle bracket ">" (e.g. "|>"). Two things occur to me about those characters together:
1. they form a bit of a "play button" shape
2. the "I" and "X" in "PHOENIX" can form that |> shape with the I and the first half of the X
I'd love to see some submissions that play with those ideas.
Another thing I'd love to see some submissions play with is more of a word mark that has the following text: "build_it(with: phoenix)". That could be valid Elixir code and I'm wondering if you all can be creative with that.
The current website is https://builditwithphoenix.com. This was designed by me who is admittedly not a designer. I would rather redesign the website based on a logo than provide limitations on the logo based on the current website.
In terms of usage, I don't imagine the logo will be used for anything other than web display and stickers. It is important to me that the logo can translate well to a sticker.
I love the style of Draplin (http://www.draplin.com/). I love a lot of logo designs from the 50s and 60s. I also love mid-70s to early 80s visual styles, especially in the tech and computer sectors. I don't know how well that would transfer over to a video course website but I would love to see someone try. I'm also a sucker for a creative visual representation of the abstract.

If you use fonts that require a license, confirm with the client they're ok with it. For licensing reasons, it is better to provide your client with information on how to acquire the font rather than providing the actual files.
Text in logos should be converted to outlines.
