EoE = Eosinophilic Esophagitis, d.h. eine allergieartige Entzündung der Speiseröhre welche zu massiven Schluckbeschwerden führt.
Eosinophile Entzünddungszellen werden immer bei Allergien gefunden, d.h. es handelt sich um eine Untergruppe der weissen Blutkörperchen (Leukozyten). Der Name "eosinophil" bedeutet "rot-liebend", und zwar weil sich diese Entzündungszellen bei der mikroskopischen Untersuchung leuchtend rot darstellen.
Die EoE-Foundation unterstützt Forschungs-Projekte welche auf dem Gebiet der eosinophilen (= allergischen) Entzündungen des Magendarm-Traktes durchgeführt werden.
