I also reside in NYC and know the Red Lion and Rockwood well. Then I did some research on your band history and influence. Most urban logos share a thick sans serif type with lettering from 1975. I was drawn to fonts like Blippo, and Bauhaus-inspired phototype faces for their bold lines and curves. So I paired that with a more compact vintage style lettering, that I then customized to better match those nice curves.
