Joni Mitchell is known for using her own paintings and illustrative self-portraits as album art. It got me thinking what kind of clever smirkiness would relate to your target audience. I started rendering cover art in the style of vintage YA mystery/adventure novels. The digipak is perfect for this type of design since it opens like a book. I rendered 2 portraits as illustrative paintings and created a composite for the cover oval and cd label that was inspired by the songs/song titles. For the backgrounds, I used a paper texture then added some color for the covers and less saturation for the inside covers. I added slight grain as well as some cheap printed ink effects. I also created a logo for the publishing company (as most of these serials had at least one), and it added a little bit extra.")

For this design, I created a detailed sketch of 2 guitar players in a dark alley with blue accents and the wordmark logo design on top. I then vectorized the sketch.")

I changed the letters \"D\" and \"J\" as well as the ampersand to give a more readable fluidity. I also changed the letter \"S\" in standing to have a slightly more ornate appearance. The face just wasn't working on a dark background as an inverse so I added an oval and a stroke to that version. For the slogan, I created text on a path then drew a banner around it.")

I wanted to do something with a big cat and the letter \"J\" is a subtle musical glyph. Using the negative space of the arms of the \"w\" as stripes and the \"J\" as a tail, I was able to craft the letters into a tiger character/letter mark. The curvature of the letters defines the body of the animal. Then I crafted a bold silhouette head that can be used separately as a branding element when needed. The musical hint of the tail is repeated in the bold dot of the \"i\" and the period. For the tagline, I chose a contrasting thinner weight font that still repeated the nice circle glyphs in tying the logo mark together as a whole. The tiger theme opens up some nice stripped brand patters for usage as well.")
