The request from the author was to include several elements representing the story (the main character, a broken mirror and an apple) but always having the “Gothic style” in mind. This is usually made by creating a darker design, with high contrasts and a “mysterious atmosphere”, almost dramatic.
Therefore, I made the entire cover with a grey color scheme, even if that grey has some soft tones (like a light purple or silver). This also gave the possibility to highlight small details, by being the only spots with a strong color, like the drop of blood in the main title and also the apple.
The font I chose for the title is quite suitable for the dark fantasy genre and its “pointed corners” helped to match the model’s long nails. It gives a mixture of a sophisticated and dramatic feeling, showing that this is not exactly a “sweet romance”.")

The series is designed to help children going through hard life experiences, by teaching them how to take ownership over their thoughts and feelings.
After some sketches and ideas about each character’s appearance, their personality was found. I gave them a cute and friendly look, but without the lines of a very childish drawing, mainly due to the large age range of the readers.
Although all illustrations were created digitally, I used textures that relate them to the “traditional drawings” made on paper. Some simulate watercolors, others look more like colored pencils. This lends a certain innocence to the images, which help to lighten the story’s theme: Divorce.
I avoided dark tones for the same reason. Keeping the colors vibrant, but not too strong, also made the text stand out to better convey such important messages.")

It includes several challenges for children within the same theme as the story.
As this is the first activities book that the author wants to release, the first part of the project was to create a graphic line that could continue in future publications, keeping the entire series with a consistent image.
The author had already consigned all the illustrations to another artist, which were delivered isolated. This gave me complete freedom to create the interior book layout and add all the necessary details.
The same happened for the book cover, where, in addition to displaying the author’s brand, I wanted to make it perfectly clear that this was also a coloring book, as all the internal illustrations were created as line art only.
This makes this publication not only educational but also fun.")

I created a very playful design with intense colors and contrasts, in order to catch the attention of the viewers but also to set the “comic atmosphere” that was needed.
The background pattern gave a “50s vibe”, which acted as a starting point to the other design elements.
The illustration of the mouth also added a “spicy” detail to the cover, that is quite consistent with the theme of the book.

This children's story takes place on a day in the life of Moby, whose character was based on the author's Mastiff dog. As this breed is so much larger than other dogs, kids who struggle with feeling different can relate to the story.
The first part of the project was to develop the main characters, based on photos of real dogs provided by the client. To attract the attention of young readers, the request was to create vibrant illustrations with a fun and whimsical vibe, with bright colors in the background to highlight the characters.
The project followed a traditional workflow, from initial sketches on paper, to the refinement of the lines in Adobe Illustrator. The next step was entirely done in Photoshop, adding colors, background scenes and all light/shadow effects. Typesetting and book cover design were the last phases of this exciting work.")
