This is a story about the search for a magic sword, which needed to figure prominently on the cover. The descriptions of the author leaded to a Viking style, with a touch of horror and almost alien feel.
In the design I wanted to transmit that the sword had special characteristics, a unique piece, that would seem almost “alive”.
However it wasn’t easy to decide where the main details should be placed, in order to keep it “usable”, as it were a real sword that is meant to be handled and strong enough to fight a battle.
The eyes in the background and the big red moon helped to give the desired impact.")

The request of the author was to represent James in the environment of Campus Gaea (a scouting style camp), following some characteristics of the tents (colors, shape, placement) in order to match the descriptions on the book.
The wolf (a character that guards the camp) and the Phoenix (a beautiful, flame red colored, large bird that is James companion) were also some of the requested details.")

There is also a detail in the back cover that appears in all the books of this series — the inclusion of some hairdresser instruments, to better make the connection with the main theme.")

All the illustrations were created by another artist, that made a fantastic job giving life to each character. I was extremely careful to keep the book layout/typesetting and the cover design completely faithful to that initial work.
The simplicity of the book cover design was also meant to make those characters stand out, as well as to introduce the author, her brand and her work to all the potential readers.")

The author had already in mind a specific scene described in the first chapter. To follow the writing, the angel needed to have an etheric appearance, while the little girl had to be seen as being “more real”.
Although there were already some references regarding the appearance of the characters, I had some freedom to “create” them in a way that could be interesting for the viewers, adding some details.
The atmosphere that surrounds them was also a very important aspect of the entire design, with the sunlight that comes through the trees. The mist was already part of the image chosen for the background, but the colors and contrasts had to be completely changed in order to make the whole imagery balanced and believable.
One of the other details requested by the author was to give a big impact to the main title “44”. The effects and colors helped to make it stand out and, at the same time, to match the rest of the design.")

The main idea was to represent caveman drawings in a very simple way and products that were used at that time... but also in our days.
The first one — “Kuchyňa Pračloveka” (Caveman's Kitchen) — is an untraditional cookbook focused on the choice of ingredients and kitchen skills/practices rather than just recipes.
The second publication is an ebook — \"Desatoro Prikázaní Moderného Pračloveka\" — that basically means \"The 10 Commandments of the Modern Caveman\". Following this line of thought, the author requested something related with the religious meaning of the title. Therefore, I used the idea of the stones of the 10 Commandments described in the Bible.
It was also important for the author to keep the “caveman illustrations” separated in two zones — the day and the night. At the center, the squatting silhouette represents the meditation and balance.")

The design shows one of the scenes of the story, when the main character finds a chest in a tower containing the Vampire Queen's heart... but then a spider as large as a dog attacks.
The details that I added to the wooden chest, not only help to place the story within medieval times, but they also give a strange and mysterious appearance to this unique piece, as it had been requested by the author.
All the book covers of this series are substantially different but they all have the same strange and menacing atmosphere.")

It includes several challenges for children within the same theme as the story.
As this is the first activities book that the author wants to release, the first part of the project was to create a graphic line that could continue in future publications, keeping the entire series with a consistent image.
The author had already consigned all the illustrations to another artist, which were delivered isolated. This gave me complete freedom to create the interior book layout and add all the necessary details.
The same happened for the book cover, where, in addition to displaying the author’s brand, I wanted to make it perfectly clear that this was also a coloring book, as all the internal illustrations were created as line art only.
This makes this publication not only educational but also fun.")

A Kid’s Guide to Saving Money, Spending Wisely, and Investing in the Stock Market” is targeted towards kids (ages 8-12) and their parents. It can be classified as a sort of mix between a nonfiction self-help and an educational book for children.
The challenge was to illustrate financial concepts, designing a fun interior layout to keep kids engaged and focused on the subjects presented.
In addition to various financial themes and advices, the book incorporates worksheets, chapter summaries and the story of the “Thrifty Tortoise vs Ritzy Rabbit” race. These two funny characters and scenes were created by the talented Adrian Doan Kim, who also designed the book cover. I did all the other illustrations while creating the internal layout, to better balance all the elements and achieve a consistent look throughout the book.
The entire project was very engaging and fun to work with, helped by the excellent communication with the author.")

The request from the author was to include several elements representing the story (the main character, a broken mirror and an apple) but always having the “Gothic style” in mind. This is usually made by creating a darker design, with high contrasts and a “mysterious atmosphere”, almost dramatic.
Therefore, I made the entire cover with a grey color scheme, even if that grey has some soft tones (like a light purple or silver). This also gave the possibility to highlight small details, by being the only spots with a strong color, like the drop of blood in the main title and also the apple.
The font I chose for the title is quite suitable for the dark fantasy genre and its “pointed corners” helped to match the model’s long nails. It gives a mixture of a sophisticated and dramatic feeling, showing that this is not exactly a “sweet romance”.")
