How to represent logic graphically. I explored a large number of concepts. Ironically, one of the last I presented was one of the first I created. A simple addition sign, with an L cut and separated. It spoke to the client immediately. We then worked on custom typography to arrive to this clean and strong logomark.
I like when something basic and practically universal can be commandeered. This is the case here, and I'm excited to see this startup grow.")

The client is an avid fan of 20th century design modernism — the so-called International Style in design. The likes of Herbert Beyer, Walter Drexel, Theo Van Doesburg, Ernst Keller and Josef Muller Brockmann.
Bold text. Luxurious, but simple.
After exploring a number of monogrammatic marks based around geometrical forms, we arrived to this: a classic, strong, type-based logomark.
The vowels are removed. And in the tradition of the old masters, often the name will be repeated by paring the logo with the name.
The ampersand was replaced by a plus sign.
And as we explore from here and build out the brand, I hope we will see a level of chaos enter, along with bold and striking colors, contrasted by a generous canvas of matte black.

On the one hand, the goal is to write the essential shape of the fox in as few lines as possible, while on the other it is to give character to the fox: an expressiveness, and strength, while oblique and esoteric, in what would be the face of the fox. The effect is rounded out by careful use of gradients to give a sense of dimensionality to the front part of the fox as it jumps.
The Cubist echo is most pronounced if you turn your head to the right and focus on the front curve of the face. Is it a fox, or some strange otherworld creature?

I was thinking about the primary motion shapes of a rabbit, and arrived to this, which reflects a kind of aesthetic one might have seen in cave paintings. In this mark, I attempted to capture graphically the essence of estrangement. A sense of incompleteness — a vibration and a tension. There's more here, for me, than an incomplete O. What remains has an emotional frequency — a strange energy that is muted and uneasy.")

I construct an icon of a double cross that appears to be in forward movement. The double cross is also to hint towards community, or sisterhood and brotherhood. The design uses a contemporary style of subtle and sharp cut shadows, to give dimensionality and an air of mystery. Overall, I wanted to convey supreme elegance, with an element of edginess that would appeal to a contemporary youth audience, while also traditional. A forward movement on solid foundations. The double cross also reinforces St. Teresa, in constituting a “T,\" giving a particular anchor to a traditional icon of the Catholic Church. A bold and confident mark.")

Originally, the client was using a bitmap image of a solar eclipse as a logo. I combined this idea with the hint of a traditional lens shutter. The outcome is a delicate mark, minimalist and abstract, and feminine. An eye? A wing? There is movement. Something is unfolding, revealing.
Amid the vulgarity of our times, Nimble Photons stands as a counter-point. I appreciate the pursuit of the signature of beauty.")

The studio aims to preserve the traditions and practices of modern masters like George Nakashima, Hans Wegner, and Charles and Ray Eames, inspiring an emotional connection between the customer and the finished piece.
The mark is an abstract composite: elements that fit together, shifting between three- and two-dimensional perspective; and a bird, confirmed in a minimalist curve. I wanted to emphasise connection, and to echo the business name from two directions.
The mark is paired with an elegant monospace font. Professional but lowkey, like the craftsman it does not advertise. It speaks of plans, technical drawings, and execution.
In terms of color, the brand is constructed around neutrals with a strong but infrequent accent. I wanted to echo the gentle elegance of Wegner, paired with the bold and striking innovations of Carlo Scarpa.")

The book is about a girl who in darkness becomes a monster. She tries to hide this fact, but falls under the watch of shadowy secret agents. Eventually, friends and family rescue her, and it transpires that they are all monsters, too.

The client was seeking a dimensional, line art-based mark. I wanted to play both on abstract forms of S, and X, for exchange. The mark is divided, to give a nod to the original root meaning of the word shilling.")

Using differential line weighting, within the hexahedron a tetrahedron emerges. There is a sense of inner space, even though the mark is a flat single colour.")

This project was interesting and challenging not least because of my admiration for Porsche design. The Porsche 911 is one of the greatest works of 20th century design. While Dieter Rams is deservedly recognised for his impact on modern design, the Porsche design team had no lesser impact.
So I wanted to approach this task respectfully and seriously, and genuinely attempt to reach a mark that could stand upright amid that heritage.
Perhaps the most recognisable element of the Porsche 911 is its tailgate. Taking a cue from the wrap-around brake lights often seen on 911 designs, I constructed a B plus C monogram.
The tapered curves — not unlike the actual tailgate of the car — give a three-dimensional effect, adding depth and beauty. Meanwhile, the mark is paired with an elegant sans serif, to complete the premium feel.")

Disenchanted with the mainstream electronic music scene, this artist with worldwide exposure wanted to go deeper, to produce a more authentic music and experience, centred around universal themes that touch us all.
This project ran for almost two months. We considered over 70 symbols and logomarks. In the end, we returned to the first symbol I created: the incomplete circle.
A wholeness that is missing, the symbol represents the struggle we have to find ourselves in the world and to understand ourselves. I wanted to say that we all have something missing, and in this we share a deeper solidarity, one we find reflected in others.
We help each other to fill in the gaps, to reach acceptance, and we move forward together, imperfect though we may be.

Melding these two concepts together, I add an exclamation mark on Caveat, to denote an interjection, and I change the lead C into an ear, to denote the quiet speech that attended the first speakeasies, but that now are places where people can gather to talk and experience the richness of a modern urban culture. I wanted the C/ear to function as both: to be balanced between these two. Along the way, it also occurred to me that the C/ear and the exclamation mark could be used together, in certain circumstances, as an abbreviated mark, or a mini logo that might be useful in-house.")

I find the history of the labyrinth to be deeply fascinating. Labyrinths were often placed in the environs of cathedrals, and on the flyleaves of scriptural manuscripts, representing a passageway from the profane to the sacred. The labyrinth was an encounter, representing both potential and danger. In Greek mythology, the minotaur resided at the centre: half-bull, half-man, this archetype was allegorical of man's journey into himself. When Theseus slays the minotaur, it represents the taming of the unruly in the domain of men. Which in itself is its own tragedy. In this design I respond to the idea of the encounter, and our bearing towards the labyrinth. I create a timeless face: the man armed with reason who is facing his monsters. Sadly I was passed over in this contest, which I regret because I would have loved to have worked on this project. It's nature fits me completely.")

But what I really want to do is to create a question mark as to whether this is a depiction of an inner state of psychopathy, or is how others came to view her, as she protests innocence, despite her proximity to a murder.")
