The focus was on having something that could be visualized in black and white but the focus was mainly for viewing in color. The book is about regular people in extraordinary circumstances, but could define a rift, or a disconnect. I used a simple but \"disconnected\" type of image that I thought would portray the book ideal in a minimalist but bold way. The disconnect option can be subtly viewed in the image, but i also incorporated it into the title by having the two S's lower than the rest of the title.")

Though her book is quirky, the subject matter is quite heavy, dealing with fear and even grief. Clearly, the cover couldn't look cheesy. My design goal was to capture the fun and quirkiness of the story while juxtaposing it with the gravity of the circumstances. To prevent the cover from becoming cluttered, I chose to include the cancer ribbon and the gaming console right into the title. This gave me more space to play with. I took advantage of the entire full jacket and I created the scene I envisioned: a young woman laid on the couch in her room and a cute black lab waiting eagerly to go outside for new adventures.")

He said he was the type of author who writes a story that has more to it than meets the eye. He strived for an eye-catching, simple design with easy-to-read fonts. Classy, yet captivating. He also desired a classic painting depicting a caravan traveling across the desert to take up the entire upper part of the cover. These days, strong contrasts, shinny finishes, or minimalistic elements seem to tilt the balance towards modern book cover design. Creating a clasic cover that doesn't look boring is pretty hard. For The Glowing Globe, I first started with a thorough research for the perfect public domain painting that we could use. Then I strived to get the classic touch and feel by splitting the cover into clear sections. This was a common look of vintage classic books. Finally, I helped the overall design stand out by working on the colors and contrasts of the photo.")
