Overview of Influence Healthcare – Home Page
Influence Healthcare (Influence) is the first vertically integrated healthcare network exclusively focused on leveraging the influence of physicians to maximize the value of care.
The core thesis of Influence is that physicians are uniquely qualified to influence the value of healthcare. No other providers, no administrator and no payer have the knowledge, expertise and hands on patient interaction required to make the myriad of decisions necessary to deliver the highest quality of care at the lowest possible price. Influence recognizes the physician is the most critical component of the healthcare system and Influence compensates physicians accordingly.
Influence Healthcare is initially focusing on leveraging spine surgeons to deliver the highest quality surgical care at the lowest possible price.

Influence surgeons are passionate about taking a proactive role in all aspects of a 90-day care episode for their patients. This goes far beyond the diagnosis and surgical intervention.
Influence surgeons partner with their patients to not only focus on the optimal treatment plan but to make sure out of pocket costs are minimized, the patient and their extended care network of family and friends are fully educated on expectations both before and after surgery, the optimal surgical facility for the procedure is chosen, the invasiveness of every procedure is minimized, the costs of implants and technology that add no value to the surgery are eliminated, the optimal recovery path is followed for each patient, and patient communications or at home visits to optimize recovery are managed. Only the surgeon is in a position to make the critical decisions required to optimize the value of care for each patient, but to do this efficiently and at scale, the surgeon needs support in the form of software tools, ancillary care providers, process, outcomes measurement, ongoing education and training and superior reimbursement to recognize the unique expertise and value the surgeon brings to the care episode. Premium Pay for Premium Care – Section on How the Program Works
Influence Healthcare contracts directly with payers for 90-day care episodes. Influence in turn contracts with hospitals, ASC’s, vendors and spine surgeons to deliver the required care.
In the typical bundled care payment model, surgeons have the least amount of influence and therefore get the smallest percentage of payment. Influence Healthcare presents a new paradigm. At Influence, the surgeon is recognized for having the greatest influence on the delivery of the highest quality care at the lowest possible cost. It is not an easy task for surgeons to take over all aspects of a care episode, but it is the right path for patients and the healthcare system. In the Influence model, the extraordinary effort and dedication of Influence surgeons to the care of their patients is appropriately recognized with extraordinary compensation. For the Influence spine fusion program, surgeon reimbursement starts at a rate of 150% of the current contracts each surgeon has with insurance companies. In exchange for higher pay, all Influence surgeons agree to take an active leadership role in reducing costs while maintaining or improving quality for each patient.
This is the hallmark of Influence Healthcare. Reinventing the healthcare system by recognizing the value of the physician and paying them fairly for that value.

Founder Bio (need head shot) – Team Section that will Build Over Time
Jeff Thramann, MD is a spine fellowship trained neurosurgeon and serial healthcare entrepreneur. Jeff went to college at West Point, earned his medical degree from Cornell and completed his neurosurgical training and spine fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He transitioned into the business side of medicine in 2008 after launching Lanx, an innovative spine implant company that was ultimately sold to Biomet.
Jeff is also the founder of U.S. Radiosurgery and ProNerve. U.S. Radiosurgery became a leading provider of CyberKnife treatment centers in the U.S. before it was sold to Alliance Imaging, a public company on the NYSE. ProNerve was an intraoperative neuromonitoring company that was sold to a private equity roll up as their platform acquisition.
The core principal in each of Thramann’s healthcare ventures is a belief in the power of the physician to influence healthcare decisions. As the healthcare system begins its march towards bundled payments, physicians find themselves faced with a tremendous opportunity to strengthen their autonomy and expand their influence. Jeff is launching Influence Healthcare to ensure physicians benefit from the bundled care opportunity.
Influence Healthcare is focused on empowering the physician to maximize their influence on the delivery of care, thereby reclaiming the sanctity of the patient physician relationship and ensuring the highest quality care is delivered at the lowest possible price.
Registration Section – This is Where Spine Surgeons Register
Interested surgeons will enter the following information:

3. Practice name & address
4. Employed or private practice
5. Email & cell
6. Hospital privileges & percentage of spine cases at each
7. ASC privileges (name and address of facility)
8. ASC Ownership (yes/no; which facility)
9. Checklist of fusion cases performed (ALIF versus TLIF, etc.)
10. Spine surgery volume for fusions (checklist of categories grouped by 50 cases)
11. Able to choose implants at each hospital (yes/no; committee involved; yes/no)
The registration section should allow surgeons to express their interest in participating in various development teams and standing committees. There should be a brief description of each team and committee, so the registering surgeon can check a box to be contacted for consideration.
Development teams will be required for the following activities:
1. Evaluate generic implant systems for basic spine surgery cases to include ACDF, PCF, TLIF and ALIF. The goal will be to pilot several systems for six months and rank order the vendors while creating a list of ideal characteristics for the manufacturing of a branded line of Influence Implants and instruments. This team will also identify the advanced implant systems that will require separate evaluation and design teams. To be eligible for this team, surgeons need to have the ability to bring new implant systems into their hospitals. A contract with the hospital’s supply team will be required.
2. Design teams to develop Influence Implants for the basic spine implant cases plus the more advanced systems such as lateral approaches and corpectomy solutions. Allow a write in section for surgeons to make suggestions for advanced systems requiring design teams. Allow surgeons to priority rank their design team preferences.
3. Design teams to evaluate and/or develop cost effective navigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring solutions with a focus on facilitating transition to the outpatient setting.
4. Surgeon teams to develop pre-op and post-op expectation management programs to include evaluating vendors such as Medical Memory, informed consent programs, Apogee hospitalist programs, at home telehealth and patient messaging platforms. These teams will develop protocols to maximize the use of ASC’s, reduce hospital stays, minimize the use of SNF’s, accelerate transfers from SNF’s, improve PT & rehab compliance and prevent readmissions.
We want a section where surgeons can write in to recommend anesthesia design team members to develop protocols for ASC care and expeditious discharge to home without readmissions. Ideally, this will include the ability to send an email from the recommending surgeon to the suggested anesthesiologist, with a “cc” to Influence. The email will provide a link to the Influence website and contain specific information about the anesthesia design team opportunity.
Standing committees will include:
1. OR committee to consider changes to implants, navigation and monitoring systems.
2. Care committee to review protocols and data informing their effectiveness to maximize the opportunity to shift cases to ASC’s and minimize readmissions.
3. Clinical committee to review outliers and leverage the information from outliers to improve the process.
Initial committees and teams will be appointed for a 2-year term. Follow on teams will be appointed by the vote of the Influence Surgeon Network. All development teams and committees will be reimbursed via consulting agreements.
This Registration Section requires a way for surgeons to refer other surgeons to the network and get credit for those who register. I do not know the best mechanism for this but am thinking a referral code is assigned to the referring surgeon and an email is sent by the referring surgeon through the website with one click on a referral button and entering the referral’s email. The email will have a canned explanation of the purpose of the referral and a link to the Influence Healthcare website. When the link is opened, the referral code is automatically propagated into the registration page of the referred surgeon should they go to registration.
All information from the registration process needs to propagate into a database that can be sliced and diced as needed, i.e., it will be important to group surgeons by location and primary hospital. All referral emails and associated processes will need to be captured.

Future Capabilities to be Contemplated at this Stage – For Perspective Only
The registration process needs to set up an account for each surgeon. This account will be the surgeons ultimate entrance into their Influence Portal. The portal will need to interface into the surgeons EMR as well as their coding and billing systems. The portal also needs to interface into the hospitals EHR to pull dictated OR reports, discharge summaries and whatever other information is required for monitoring length of stay, complications, etc.
This information is only provided in case it has implications on how the website should be designed. For instance, it should not be designed on a platform that cannot support a robust registration process and export of information into an acceptable database or CRM platform.
