How design k2 started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Website design for a Genetic Information Wiki Site
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are creating a wikipedia for genetic information that will be used by health care providers and scientisits. The site will have millions of pages associated as well as an active community that edits and moderates the site.
It should be simple to use (general navigation) but yet demonstrate its size and quality of serious genetic information. There will be many links to scientific publications etc.
I have prepared a detailed brief of the demo content to display in the pages.
The corporate color is Green and blue. The Name of the site is GenoPedia and the Logo has already been defined.
Please check the attached files for exact requirements and logo file
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Medical & Pharmaceutical
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
Color: Green and blue
It should not look playful but should show clear data with high scientific value. People should feel, that this is an enormous website with impossibly much content.
From a simplicity point of view, Google is perfect, One text box and one button to search.
The site will automatically adjust in width to the width of the browser window, just like in Wikipedia. It should therefore be designed to allow this.
I need 2 pages: (see powerpoint atachment for more detailed description)
1) Content page - This page shows some site statistics and a prominent search bar as well as the navigation. It will have a footer and an illustration image at the top. It has some tables, lists, raw text and percentage bars (or similar) to show how common certain genetic types are.
2) User account - This page allows user to manage his profile and it should show his rank and awards he got while working on the site.
3) As users asked me:
Everything is up to you: how to show or hide the scientific detials (be it an expandable section where you have to click on, a hover over function or whether to show it at the bottom of the page so as no to confuse users that dont want to go to this level of detail.
The illustration does not have to be redone. I have uploaded a placeholder you can use which will still be changed in the future but is good enough for this.
What to avoid
Bue: RGB: 1/20/97
Green RGB: 148/200/6
If things work out, there might be follow up work for the winner.
