Contact233 got their new web page design by running a design contest:
New website design wanted for Dinner Happy
Check out Contact233's Web page design contest…
We are a startup recipe site, focused on making cooking recipes easier and providing guidance along the way.
The site needs to make you hungry and happy. Not feel overwhelmed with content, but at the same time, have enough content to keep the user interested.
Overview - We have most features we are looking to incorporate on the pages already. However we need a professional look and feel now. We generally want to have a clean and friendly look, hopefully keeping with the appetizing color palettes. If you cannot incorporate all the features we have on each page, or you would like to do something new on a page to balance it, please add it. Home Page - We are looking for a fresh look that is not as overcrowded as other recipe sites. Because we are a new recipe company, we don't have alot of recipes yet, therefore we would like to keep the focus of the homepage to our features and not just listing recipes. We have the basic elements we are looking for on the page already. However we need to incorporate a search bar as well. e.g. www.dinnerhappy.com User Page - This is more of a form based page and needs to focus on activity and recipes. What has the user been doing? Also keep in mind what this page can look like when the user is new and has no data? It needs to look good for both veteran users and new users. e.g. http://www.dinnerhappy.com/alison-jeffries Recipe Page - This is our bread and butter page! This page needs to work as a standalone page as well as a popup. This page is broken into 4 sections we know but they are very short and elements repeat. (Landing, Overview, Steps, and Review) We are very focused on people having a conversation around the recipe. The main elements to keep in mind on this page are the charts, comments, reviews, and images. We have most of the elements where we want them on the page, but it needs a nice look to it. e.g. standalone: http://www.dinnerhappy.com/alison-jeffries/recipes/tomato-chicken-pasta e.g. popup: http://www.dinnerhappy.com/alison-jeffries click on the recipe.
What to avoid
Pure lists. We don't want to see just lists of recipes like other recipe sites do. It makes the site feel very messy. We do like the feeling of tiles, like how the google play and chrome stores are designed.
We are looking to stay within the constraints of what we have already done. However, we are programmers and not graphic designers, therefore if it looks like a new elements needs added to a page, feel free to add and modify what fits and looks good.

It all began with a design brief.

And then… they selected a winner!
Solomia is an absolute pleasure to work with. She communicates well, delivers fast and interprets the brief accurately. She is very creative and has a great eye for detail. We are thrilled with the result and would definitely work with her again!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
