Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
AustinSalonNews.com will be a salon and beauty professional database with an email newsletter for the City of Austin, Texas. The website will be a central venue for locals to review salons, locate available stylists, request appointments, connect with all the top industry resources, find exclusive local discounts, and much more. It's a push/pull model where the website will push out news three times a week via the email newsletter and will pull the readers back to the website via content within the newsletter.
Austin stylists, estheticians, massage therapists, or salon/spa owners will be able to create their own professional biography so website visitors can search for professionals in their area.
http://behindthechair.com/ - This website is half of the Austin Salon News target audience (since it's just beauty professionals). Do not like layout or design of this website. To boring and basic.
http://jacksonruiz.com/ - This is a Salon website and is designed with the local consumer in mind. We like how this website is laid out but we do not like white text on a dark background. The patterned background is cool.
Home page design/concept
The home page will include a featured salon and featured beauty professional each month, featured discount, featured product, and an auto-populated list of the five most recent related news articles. The news article list should contain an image from the article. In addition, the home page should include a sign up form/image for the Austin Salon News newsletter, links to the Austin area Salon and Stylist search, search box that allows user to query salon/stylist profiles, and a map of Austin area segmented into nine boxes.
Navigation menu will include the following:
+ Newsletter signup
+ Featured Beauty Professional
+ Featured Salon & Spa
+ Stylist/Esthetician/Massage Therapist Search
+ Salon Search
+ Austin Area Map Search
+ Contact us
+ About us
Have fun with it and remember that the audience for this website will not only be beauty professionals and business owners, but the local consumers in Austin, Texas. When designing the home page remember that our email newsletter sign ups will be key to the website's success. The home page should be designed in a way that converts visitors to newsletter subscribers as well as make them want to request an appointment from a salon or specific beauty professional.
