Please see initial draft of mock-up to use as guide for where our design thoughts are (https://www.taxsamaritan.com/homepage-mockup/). We want to stand out in a sea of sameness (we want our brand to roar in our industry) with a stellar and modern design utilizing the latest best practices for UX and SEO design. We want to design for the eyeballs so our visitors don’t have to think – design for readability. We want to elicit and trigger emotions with metaphorical imagery. Simplicity and speed for conversion and ease of use. Great copy with standout photography (will replace with non-stock photography). A logical flow of content that supports are target audience to help them flow from the top of our funnel all the way to purchase (engaging with us for tax preparation or tax resolution work) at the bottom of our funnel. Branding and UX should be improved. Simple and logical navigation – the website should easily lead visitors to take the next step with us by providing a clear and readily available path to action. Aim for clean, intuitive, easy-to-understand navigation. We don’t want to be innovative to the point where our site visitors are confused. They don’t have the patience to figure it out and instead will simply be frustrated and angry at the experience. We want to make your site easy to decipher and understand for both search engines and visitors as it will result in a more positive result with regards to SEO and UX. Other goals are to increase engagement on the site (such as page views, increased time on site, reduced bounce rates and interaction). We want to prepare for mobile-first indexing and voice search. We want to match superior SEO with superior UX. We want visitors to have a great experience on our website as they will be more likely to think favorably of our brand and also have a greater probability that they will engage with our brand and make a purchase. Regarding competitor websites in the tax industry (i.e. expattaxprofessionals.com, greenbacktaxservices.com, taxesforexpats.com, brighttax.com), we want to do better than these competitors in the areas that they do well and ensure that we are covering these areas as well. We want to ensure that our user experience is superior to our competitors and on par with leading companies in other industries. Incorporate neuromarketing and behavioral science-based considerations into the design. Site needs to be modern and updated with the latest best practices for CRO/UX.
(1) Homepage (current page: https://www.taxsamaritan.com). Make sure your site’s home page is clean, uncluttered and provides clear navigational clues. Your visitors should be able to tell right away what your firm does and where they should go next to accomplish the goal that brought them there. (2) Get A Free Quote Today (formerly “Tax Quote” page – explain value of quote) (current page: https://www.taxsamaritan.com/tax-return-getting-started/tax-quote/). Goal is conversions - quote form completion. (3) Our Process (formerly “Our Tax Process” page) (current page: https://www.taxsamaritan.com/tax-return-getting-started/our-tax-process/). Clear understanding of our process and visitor is confident. Interested in your design ideas. (4) Standard Web Page (Current web page layout: https://www.taxsamaritan.com/tax-preparation-services/). Interested in your design ideas. (5) Standard Blog Post (Current blog post layout: https://www.taxsamaritan.com/how-much-do-i-owe-the-irs/). Interested in your design ideas.
What to avoid
Any dated concepts; design elements that will affect site speed negatively or don't follow SEO best practices for design.
For additional ideas and feedback from our Conversion Rate Optimization consultant, please see the following notes on the mock-up of the home page notated earlier: PAGE – HOME PAGE Value Proposition Section (Item 1) Design The height of image (Item 1) needs to shrink and add picture of us in our office (digitally superimpose other staff into picture – Jordan, Randall, Tony, Connie professional picture in office. Hire a professional photographer that can provide art direction and photo shoot. Text needs to be our unique value proposition (see our home page to include here) and text needs to be why to use us. What makes us unique. [incorporate slogan and why statement; “Wherever In The World You Live, We Speak The Language Of Help”]. Add main statement and subsection (like Item 8 from greenbacktaxservices.com) of “Never worry again…” for our main statement and subsection it invokes emotion that folks should not waste time and they don’t enjoy themselves doing taxes. Offer more Calls to Action. We have the “Learn more” which is fine (send it to the “Why Us” or “What We Do” page). Add a secondary call to action to the “Get A Free Quote Today” button (explain value of quote and consult). Schedule a free 30-minute consultation button (no cost to you; we can call you or connect via Skype, etc; explain value of consult and how it happens and it takes place; no cost for the call and at your convenience; top things they would like to know or confused about before moving forward – if you would’ve known in advance or were missing what would they be such a do I qualify for FEIE, what forms do I need to file, answer your questions about your tax situation and our process, etc). Use “red” in call to action buttons. Item 1 Content New Section – After “Value Proposition Section” (Item 1) In “Simply To Ask Your Tax Questions (Item 5), replace with something like Expattaxprofessionals.com mentions four reasons to use us (see OPSP) – from expattaxprofessionals: Easy, expert, secure, affordable (also see greenbacktaxservices.com that says “simplicity, security, transparency” which is too dry (anybody can say what they are saying, we need to make it relatable, use like “highest accuracy”, the “most secure” for our use but focus on similar where we feel we are better than our competitors and move to be placed after Item 1. See also TFX (taxesforexpats.com) similar section with “top experts in the field, flat fee pricing, superb independent reviews/NPS”. Also TFX wording of “Prepare US tax returns for you no matter where you are in the world” is good wording. But make one of ours our satisfaction guarantee. Short and sweet overview of why to use us. Make it relatable and not generic. Add icons to our version of what expattaxprofessionals has (see Item 6) as it is a bit text heavy. Explains these top four reasons to use us. Have a pic of me with logo and me as founder and our most senior person on the right (i.e. Jordan). People may trust us more if they see that we are more than just a one-person team. You will be working with me and my team – have picture of me as founder along with image and text of Jordan and Tony. Services Section (Item 2) Design The three images need to be more interesting/compelling and not so stock-imagery and have some text and nice icons along with each image would make it look more modern to help this section. Item 2. Content “Service That’s Second To None” Section (Item 3) Design Repurpose “Service That’s Second To None” section Item 3 here on why we are the expert, accreditations, education, awards to build credibility and trust which is lacking. More about who we are. Expat tax experts guidance from an expert in the field. Include seals and certifications (IRS EA, NTPI Graduate, NAEA journal and article with Mike DeBlis links) of credentials to go along with images. Showing visual stuff will help saying it besides saying it to build credibility. Explain who we are and why we are an expert. The benefit of us working with us. Item 3. Talk about that you will be working with me and my team of experts. Add section of end benefit of using us after Item 3 (i.e. maybe called “Providing Unbeatable Results To Expats Around The World” – tweak as similar to Greenback’s statement). “Top Rated U.S. Tax Service Worldwide For Americans Abroad”. Need to have strong statement like this or BrightTax statement “the leading global US expat tax services provider”. See what top websites in other industries do for “end benefit best practices”. Idea: “Trusted by thousands of U.S. taxpayers worldwide”. You maximize your return. Peace of mind. Also, show metrics that back us up (i.e. our NPS score and show link to what it is and other industry benchmarks to known companies such as Apple; or we save clients on average $X). Include accreditations we have, awards we have won to build credibility and trust and why they should use us. They will save a lot of time, avoid making mistakes, miss things that may save them money if they do themselves vs. using us or risk penalties for omissions and required disclosures. See client comments from NPS and other testimonials. What someone can expect from using us. They will minimize their taxes. What is important and of benefit to most of our clients. In league with leading service companies such as Apple – show chart of our NPS with other leading companies. “highest NPS tax score” in the tax industry. Providing unbeatable service and peace of mind to U.S. taxpayers worldwide. End benefits of using us (see opsp). People care about what their end benefits are. The Highest Rated Expat Tax Preparation form, America’s Highest Rated Tax Firm. Include pain point(s) in headlines. Add a video from me introducing myself under two minutes talking about who I am (After End Benefit), my experience, benefits of using us, why to use me rather than other services to give it more interactivity with an image of myself. Item 3 Mention our satisfaction guarantee and Audit Protection Plan (After Video Introduction of Myself) in the “We Built Our Company By Helping People” area… have “Learn More” more link to satisfaction guarantee and audit protection plan. Item 4 Replace With - Mention Satisfaction Guarantee and how we can guarantee results. Important to get across to people that they can use us without any risk. Click to see more details that links to the “Satisfaction Guarantee” page. Content 1 “What Our Clients Are Saying About Us” Section Add links and highlight of testimonials written (like taxesforexpats site) For “What Our Clients Are Saying About Us” Item 7, add client video testimonials, it’s a lot more interactive and people can understand how we help someone. Have this done professionally so it’s high quality, professional and not cheesy. Show as screen shot of client. Personalize the videos shown first as being from the country they are located in based on their IP address. Show testimonials with links to more on all pages/page designs. Maybe add something like trusted by over XX,000 U.S. taxpayers. Create 2-3 for each focus foreign country and 2-3 for other major countries where we have lots of clients (i.e. Australia, UK, Afghanistan, etc). Sample version Item 10. Item 12 and Item 14. Add section of client companies to build credibility and trust after client testimonials. Item 13. Good idea. Replace with social proof like expattaxprofessionals.com has as “Featured In” with logos of magazines, newspapers (add with link) Add social proof like expattaxprofessionals.com has as “Featured In” with logos of magazines, newspapers (add with link). NAEA journal magazine (recognized EA expert as featured in NAEA journal – logo with link to article). BBB Accreditation. Google Reviews (showing rating and # of reviews). Don’t use IRS Enrolled Agent and NAEA logo (people won’t know what it means for credibility or trust). Highest NPS rating in the tax industry, NTPI. Have a security seal on our site. Add section like staxesforexpats.com with logos of companies that our clients work for “our clients work at 1,000+ organizations around the world such as…” use the big ones especially for military contractors. No links to the actual companies. Bright tax says “BrightTax is trusted by American Expats Working with global organizations worldwide” Item 11. Place towards bottom of page so people know how it works and show with value proposition on how easy and user friendly our process is. On bottom add something like taxes for expats that has button to request callback, schedule consultation, online chat, call now, etc. Item 15. Navigation is too dark/dull. Add more color – perhaps standard “red” and “bold” the text. Item 16. Use drop downs with arrows like expattaxprofessionals.com so they can see that there is stuff that they can rollover. Add live chat button for Messenger (and alternative) Add section that shows “US Tax Guide for Country based on IP” with pic of country map or flag would be good (Like TFFX). Item 9. Future Section – Use IP to show tax guide for their foreign country (if in a foreign country where we have a guide) Ask clients what are some of the key things they want to know before selecting a tax service and what were the things they learned about us that the peaked their interest. What are the top things that client want to know or ask about before deciding to hire us. Were there things you felt were missing that you wanted to know that would’ve been of help to you when checking us out on our website. Maybe have Rich do design mockups and then have others (Marcy, Justin Jacques, staff and other CRO experts) provide feedback. People are going to be comparison shopping and I need to have more than what my competitors have and more Need to have exit intent popup from home page to sign up and provide info – such as guide “Do you know 10 most common mistake expats make” or schedule free 30-minute consultation and A/B test to see what converts better. Under headings Services – should list services we offer (use down arrows so people now there is stuff they can drop down) Resources – should list guides we have
