andzC got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Redesign our website to help parents of teenagers!
Check out andzC's Web page design contest…
We provide parents of teenagers with expert advice on how to discuss difficult topics like sex, drugs, drinking, social media, and peer pressure.
The site should feel trustworthy and authoritative, but also family-oriented and approachable. In addition, we are a bit more youthful and hip than most parenting brands, so that should come across. I think fun illustrations and bright, solid colors or gentle gradients will help to achieve this feel. But I am not an expert and am happy to be proven wrong :)
Homepage: The goal of this page is to get users to select a topic they need help with. I have a list of about 50 topics and I want to get them to choose one, maybe breaking it up into a few questions so they don't have to choose between all 50 at once. There could also be some basic information about who we are, for people who aren't ready to choose a topic right away. Topic pages: Once they choose a topic, they should be taken to a topic page that pulls together all the content we have on a specific topic in a single place. It will contain short audio clips (2-5min) that can be accompanied by a transcription. Also, there are scripts for parents to try out and exercises they can do to prepare to talk with their teenager about this topic. And we might want to have a way for them to choose a new topic once they are done with this one. Finally, we need some way to gate the content and prompt the user to sign up for a membership. Maybe we give them a limited number of clips for free and they have to subscribe to see the rest, or maybe they can view a few pages per month for free and have to subscribe to get more. Podcast episode pages: We also need a page for the full podcast episodes. There should be an audio player on the page as well as a title, featured image, and summary of the episode. There are also tags for the episode. And there are show notes, scripts, exercises, and a full transcript of the episode (you can see examples on our website). Importantly, there needs to be a call to action urging people to subscribe to unlock the full-length ad-free version of the episode and the rest of the scripts and exercises. We give away a short version of the episode for free and one script and one exercise per episode. It needs to be obvious that there is a much longer version of the episode and there are more scripts and exercises they can get if they subscribe. There could also be a way for them to rate the episode out of 5 stars, and we can use these ratings to recommend them content they will enjoy. Registration page: This is where users will actually sign up for a membership and give us their credit card information. We offer a 14-day free trial and charge $4.99 per month for membership. You can view our current registration page on our website. Member dashboard: When users are logged into the site, they need to have access to a page that allows them to modify their membership, update their credit card, set up the members only podcast on their smartphone (via their favorite podcasting app), and get personalized content recommendations. It might ask them a few questions the first time they sign in (like whether they need help with boys, girls, or both, and which topics are most relevant to them). There could also be a way for people to save scripts and exercises they like as they are browsing the site, and their saved stuff could show up on the dashboard somewhere. I'm also imagining it can recommend them a personalized mix of podcast episodes to listen to next, based on their listening history and preferences.
Here are the topics I want to cover on the site. There are over 50 of them so it might be overwhelming to have users pick between all of these at once, but maybe we can break the selection process down into a few questions or group these into categories or something... Eating disorders Self harm Puberty Violence Legal trouble Money Vaping Drugs Alcohol Grades Laziness Lying Bullying Sex Porn Social media Video games Homework Anger management Time management Learning disabilities Dating Friendship Popularity Stress Anxiety Depression Career College Testing Prom Gender norms Chores Disrespect Rules Punishment Life advice Sleep Bonding Negotiating Family values Mentors LGBTQ Sexual assault Repressed trauma Aggression Persuasion Sports Self esteem Mindfulness Purpose Driving Emotional intelligence
