adalK got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Redesign an old website for a benevolent organization

Community & Non-Profit
The Grand Lodge of the Masons of California is the HQ of Freemasonry for the state of California. It is a non-profit organization. Their current website includes a detailed description of all the things they do. To summarize, one could say that freemasonry is way for men to gather and belong to a group. They have in common the desire to be the best version of themselves, make deep connections with each other and participate in benevolent actions in their community. The audience is mostly older men, but they want to also appeal to a younger audience of men who are curious to join masonry. The Grand Lodge has multiple other websites about the specific programs they run, from collecting donations and helping communities, to retirement communities, children sports events and more.
Overall we want a refreshed look for the website that is consistent in branding and colors but is more modern, clean, fun and easy to use. I have recorded two videos that explain some details about expectations: 1 - https://youtu.be/J2Ag64CyAcY 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no2vW0StFAc&t=6s Here is brand document, please refer to it for the logo as well as fonts, details and icons: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6oiqddvhlr5irmc/Brand_Style_Guide_IconographyGuide_C4-FINAL-Masons-of-California.pdf?dl=0 Here is a good amount of images to work with: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/roEj2Ep3kpw1egRJCY3HmFTVezDfU1MZPG99c72jOag
## 1: Homepage - freemason.org See videos (which walk through the detailed notes below) and visual guide section for more info. Make sure to include a hero slider and the other elements described in the video. More notes about homepage: Please reuse the existing first slide of the current homepage at freemason.org Member center goes away (big button in the nav) Lodge locator is VERY IMPORTANT > how prospects are actually created Events are still important Pull in some of the news (last 3) Feature the latest The Leader issue Have video space Want a small text section of evergreen Section with teaser thumbs leading one section deeper Nav: full-width simple drop downs with sans serif, more clean young and modern Let's move the red line from below the nav to above the nav and move contact and lodge locator and member center I would prefer that you design the home page first, then we can work on the following: ## 2: https://freemason.org/discoverMasonry/index.htm How can you make this page more exciting? Please include a title banner with image background. Extra notes: Make link styles obvious Include a top header image bullet style: remove grey bg ## 3: https://freemason.org/discoverMasonry/history.htm How can we make such a small page visually pleasing? Please DO NOT include a hero image, so that we have both a page with it (#2) and this one without it. ## 4: https://freemason.org/newsEvents/leader.htm How can we make this page more organized, easy to navigate and visually interesting?
It would be best if you design the homepage first, and also that you watch the videos and read the brand guide before working. We want to be consistent with the brand but have a refreshed look and feel that is modern and can appeal to both the young and older audience. Images are included in the link provided. I prefer PSD to sketch.

And then… they selected a winner!
Youssef was great to work with. Not only did he come up with high quality design comps, he also was extremely easy to communicate with, hard working and detail oriented. He really went above and beyond to ensure that what he delivered met our specific needs, even when they were simply our preferences. I wish everyone put clients first the way he does, and I certainly plan to collaborate again with him in the future.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
