Food & Drink
We source sustainably-farmed organic superfoods directly from small farmer collectives and indigenous communities from around the world - and sell direct to consumers in 100% compostable packaging. Our customers are health-conscious foodies, seeking pristine, nutritionally-rich foods that are produced with ethical and ecological awareness — beyond Organic, beyond Fair Trade. A percentage of our sales benefits AmazonWatch (> $1m donated), helping to protect precious rainforests and indigenous cultures. One of our main differentiators is our authentic connection to the "source," and our ability to share stories and video about where our products come from, how they are made, who the farmers are, and how your purchase impacts their lives and the environment.
Should feel like a timeless international importer of artisan goods. Cutting-edge Modern Science + Ancient Indigenous Wisdom. Authentic, "Rootsy" and cutting-edge. Connecting people with the farms we work with. Inspiring them with the idea that each time they purchase our products they are impacting the lives of organic farmers around the world. Visitors should feel they have entered a rarified world where they are gaining access to something special: globe-trotting adventures in search of optimal health, knowledge, and a cornucopia of the planet's most powerful healing and energizing foods. (Seriously! Check out our videos: http://essentiallivingfoods.com/pages/visit-the-farms) —Fair-Trade / Ethical / "Conscious" —Natural / Organic / Pure / Fresh —Clean / Simple —Exotic / Handcrafted / Unique —Potent / Powerful Whitespace is good. See our Catalogue PDF for photos from our farms. (We have a small yet modest budget for stock photos if you find something truly great.) * Graphical ideas: —Maps / Compass —Farming Tools —Chemical Symbols / Plant Science / Nutrients / Phytochemicals —Symbols / Designs from Indigenous Cultures (Aztec, Shipibo, etc) —Global travel & supply-chain (see Patagonia.com's "The Footprint Chronicles")
*** Primary focus should be on the Home Page*** Once primary design aesthetic is confirmed then we can transition focus to the product detail page template. 1.) Home Page*: a. Clean navigation similar to everlane.com (drop down/roll over image)b. Featured content rotator (see everlane.com for fonts/aesthetic and call to action buttons). Four slides content as noted below: Slide 1.) Product Feature: Subscription Box and call to action. See: https://www.birchbox.com/shop/join Content: Filler image of subscription box. Text copy: The ELF Box. Get a monthly delivery of seasonal fair-trade, organic superfoods and lifestyle samples that have been customized for you. Slide 2.) "Hero" shot of indigenous farmers which might serve to communicate the transparency of our organization and direct connection to fair trade farming. Text: "Right to Know - Know your farmer. Know your cost. Always ask why." Slide 3.) "#EssentialLivingFoods" Instagram campaign encouraging instragram users to tag photos showcasing how the use superfoods to fuel this lives Slide 4.) Featured Product. Product photo (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/p27bt6flfknlfmh/s37wq1ov5v/PHOTOS%20mood%20%3A%20farms) perhaps the golden betties with the hush still on. Or the cacao bean. Filler Text overland a call to action. c. Whitespace and copy allowing space to breathe and text reiterating our direct connection to source and transparency as a Company. 2.) Product Details Page template a. Multiple product options (sizes) each with corresponding images: For the product detail pages, as we offer products in various sizes and the corresponding packaging is different, for each. Thus we need an elegant way to show each of the different product photos. Here's an example of one of our peers I do not think is elegant - but it does a better job of illustrating the options and actual packaging than our current site does: https://store.nutiva.com/coconut-manna/ As you can see on our site here: http://essentiallivingfoods.com/products/goji-berries ; Goji berries for example come in 8oz and 5lbs bags, however we only show the 8oz photos on our current site. I much prefer the retail/apparel model as showcased on https://www.everlane.com/collections/womens-luxury-tees/products/womens-v-light-blue b. Product storys: photos and video ala everlane.com c. Nutritional facts d. Subscribe and Save: "add to bag" or Subscribe Bundle & Save: Similar to how honest.com gives customers the option to purchase any item ala cart, but also gives the option to bundle the item with other items, subscribe and save... I would like to model something like this (https://www.honest.com/baby/honest-diapers) but not as busy... e. social share f. related products
What to avoid
Please avoid: Clutter. Congestion. Non-compatible responsive design element. Don't match our peers: —navitasnaturals.com (clean, almost great - but bland...) —sunfood.com, livesuperfoods.com (too busy for our taste) Images from our site can be used but most are over-saturated, crowded and low res. See attached PDF Catalog. High res images can be supplied upon request.
A.) MINIMALISM: design should communicate the pristine nature of these gourmet quality superfoods and the company's unique direct connections to the source (direct international imports). - Reference attached product catalogs for design elements, photos, copy and typography. *** Design should complement our product catalogs in a cohesive manner. *** http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0095/9272/t/5/assets/Essential_Living_Foods_Retail_Catalog_2013.pdf - Image assets: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/p27bt6flfknlfmh/gPv4Or45Bp?n=1533475 - Navigation Hierarchy / link categories and drop down links in attached: ELF About drop.jpg etc... B.) SUBSCRIPTION: A subscription/continuity box will be a featured product on the home page. Special attention and real estate should be given to accommodate this featured product. C.) RESPONSIVE DESIGN: Design should have alternative mobile format D.) FACEBOOK INTEGRATION: For account login / encourage membership throughout the UX, similar to everlane.com NOTE: The winning designer will be invited to help with additional design projects as the entire site, a wholesale section and a couple landing pages will need to be designed in the future as well.
