Design Brief: PlanetaVino UNCODED template: a redesign for a site offering classes on Spanish wines.
We are a small company located in Madrid, Spain, offering wine tasting classes in English. We are in the process of redesigning our website Planetavino.net, and are searching for a new look. The only part of our existing site that we currently like is our logo, which was professionally developed apart from the website itself.
The website is going to be restructured into five main areas: Home (with blog), Information on Classes, Information on Spanish Wines, Information on our Wine Keeper products for wine preservation, and Information for Tour Operators/Corporate clients. These areas should be clearly linked to from every part of the website, and should serve to entice the correct target individuals into each area. For more information see 1d.
Additionally we will want to be able to clearly present a section for upcoming events, and very importantly our contact/where are we information. Our phone number, hours of business and address should be visible on every page.
1a) Name of Company
1b) Do you have a company logo?
Yes, our logo which we are very happy with (colors, style, etc) is visible in the upper left hand corner of http://www.planetavino.net/
1c) What is the nature of your business? Briefly describe your products or services:
We offer wine tasting classes on Spanish wines to a variety of clients: private tourist groups, coporate groups, and local expatriates. The wine blog offers opinions on Spanish wines and gourmet products, as well as reviewing restaurants/wine bars in Madrid and throughout Spain. We also provide information on and distribute Wine keeper products within Spain, so the web site would also need to list vendor sites in Spain.
1d) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
Our website is primarily targeted at English speaking people interested in wine, who are either currently in Madrid, Spain or planning a trip there. We are hoping to reach tourists looking for a fun activity in Madrid, business looking to arrange an entertaining group activity or a special outing with a client, expat locals looking for something new to do, and tour operators/industry people looking for activities to add to their tour packages.
2a) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.
Note: some of these templates include flash but that isn’t necessary for our design.
1. I like the burgundy background with the bubble boxes, the overlapping image in the top box, the menu on top, the simple visual layout of the bottom box. Our favourite of the lot.
2. Visual box layout, has a set of attractive, large boxes with images, that make the contents of the page very clear
3. Big images inside rectangle....like the way the background contrasts with the main box, like the big, catchy images up top...layout very clear and simple.
4. Last one is a more classic layout, with the curve to break it up. Simple, but not too bad...
2c) What colors or color schemes would you like?
We would like the site to be clean and easy to read, perhaps keeping most large chunks of text dark on a light background, but we would like to use rich colors evocative of wine, such as burgundy. Our logo incorporates the colors of four kinds of wine and can/should be used to help suggest further colors.
2d) List the Navigation links for your Site:
- Top Navigation: Home, Wine Classes, Spanish Wines, Wine Keeper, Tour Operators, Where We Are, Who We are
- Sub-Navigation will vary based on top navigation topic selected.
2e) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)
We are looking for a look that suggest both the elegance of fine wines and the spirit of fun and good living that wines suggest. Elegant but entertaining. The site should be very clear and easy to understand and cleanly broken down into distinct components. Since our services are offered in the physical world, it should be very clear how to contact us and find us.
2f) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:
The images we have are those present on our current site, planetavino.net, additional imagery should evoke wines, wine culture, learning about wines and perhaps Spain. There should also be integrated several pictures of our wine classroom in central Madrid, some of these pictures can be viewed on our current site.
DEADLINE AND DELIVERABLES
How many pages will you require delivered?
2 pages: home page and content page.
What I'm actually looking for with this requirement is that if you envision the content pages (such as classes, about us) as being laid out differently from the home page, as is often the case, that you provide us with both layouts.
A good example is to see the difference between the home page of this template: http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/…2LUq1hYM59
and the "our vinery" page of the same template: http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/…02&tab=204
I recommend all entrants start with just submitting a home page so I have time to give feedback, and as it gets refined towards the last few entries, submit a content page to show how the same design would work for the main content sections.
