How eslsys started their web page design journey

Summary

To any designer entering for the first time, we have a number of similar concepts already - would like to see something new if you are entering!

An interesting challenge for a designer to come up with a minimalist design, we are looking for a look and feel concept only with no coding.

See the detailed brief for more information, a layout draft and design notes and a link to our logo!

What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?

We are a startup and havedeveloped a web portal for IT contract professionals and companies looking torecruit suitably qualified people. Generally these people are contracted bycompanies for specific jobs for a set period of time - typically 3, 6 or 12 months.

The norm is that recruiters findIT people for these companies and take a substantial portion of salary as a feefor doing this.

Our portal will establish acommunity of companies with roles to fill and qualified people who are availableto undertake the role. The portal provides both companies and contractors witha lot more functionality and service than they currently get.

Our logo (from 99designs) conveysthe community feel we wanted, a link to the design is available below.

Wants

We are looking for a new websitedesign with very much a minimalist feel, no clutter and focus of attention tobe drawn to the key messages on the website.

We do not require any coding, justdeliver a layered psd and we will cut it up ourselves and incorporate yourdesign into our coding. We would like you to keep notes of font details youhave used and let us have these as part of delivery – they will be incorporatedinto css for the website.

A key feature of our website will bethat there will be no scrolling, it will consist of a header and footer andcontent in between with no need for scrolling. Navigation will be clear andconcise; you find your required content in a targeted 2 and at most 3 clicks. This is probably not relevant to you designers but we wanted to give you anidea of where we are going with this site.

Smashing magazine has a greatarticle of minimalist design here, have a look at the showcase but you shouldscroll down further in the article to see the key design messages andsuggestions particularly the section on whitespace and/or solid colours.

Also have a look at this ZDnetarticle, its short and should help you see where we want to focus attention inthe website design http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=2776

There are no restrictions ondesigners once you follow the minimalist brief, feel free to change the layoutas you see fit and we will comment in feedback.

You can find a layout draft, accompanying notes and the logo here:

http://www.mediafire.com/eslsys

(if you’re having any hassle withmediafire let me know and I’ll copy the notes in here and figure something outwith the jpg)

Our logo has 2 colours, the orangeis pantone 021 C and the grey is pantone 431 C

Finally we will be releasing thewebsite for test in two versions, an alpha test version and a beta testversion. Please include a layer in your design with the word ‘alpha’ and alayer with the word ‘beta’ most likely in the header – we will turn theselayers off as appropriate when we cut up the design for the website.

If you have any questions orcomments, please let us know and we will clarify for you.  Hope the brief is ok and sorry if it’s toolong
