ProjectGoC needed a new web page design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 24 designs submitted by 10 freelance designers.
TBD but codenamed "Project Go-C"
Project Go-C is a social community for models, photographers and related modeling industry professionals (e.g., makeup artists, hairstylists, clothing designers, etc.) to connect and interact. Much like popular social networking destinations, professionals will be able to create profiles with an avatar, bio information, resumes and portfolios to display their work. They will also be able to browse profiles of other members, make connections and view available auditions and bookings.

Although we will not be an e-commerce shop like the sites below with lookbooks and retail stores, we have chosen these fashion designers’ sites because of the imagery.
Gucci (http://www.gucci.com/us/home) – the overall layout and color scheme, textured backgrounds, spotlight lighting effect and image reflections give the site an art gallery feel.
Chanel (http://www.chanel.com) – open to a pure black & white site because it gives an aura of being timeless, but the real appeal is the non-flash pan and slide animation effect for the images.
Vera Wang (http://www.verawang.com) – the minimalistic design of bold images paired with an opaque menu overlay gives the site a clean and contemporary feel. It even leaves room for more thumbnail sized images while keeping the site looking spacious.
*Please note* This site will not contain any flash elements. Any animation and controls will be done using javascript.
The 3 words representing the emotions we want to evoke in visitors to our site are:
- Luxurious
- Elite
- Iconic
As a destination for models and photographers to showcase their talent, the main focal point for the home page will be the imagery, which should dominate the page. The background will be an image which should either stretch the full browser window or at least span nearly the full width and height of the window. This image will be a featured photo pulled from a member’s portfolio and will be updated frequently. The image will be one that is high fashion/glamour/beauty much like the cover of a fashion catalog or magazine.
We are open to the idea of doing some photo retouching before an image is placed as the background home. With that being said, the image could be an overlay over top a textured background (e.g., slate, stone, etc.) or it could be edited with effects (e.g., lighting the subject, changing blending modes, applying filters, etc.) over an ominous gradient. A dark background will help the image project better.
All other elements mentioned below should be centered and optimized for 1024x768 resolution (i.e., 960 – 985px width).
Login for members – username and password fields along with a login button. In this area, we will also have a "Forgot password" link plus a "Sign up" link to register new members.
A navigation menu – maybe a transparent overlay bar with 4 or 5 menu options
An inspirational quote by a famous designer which would be updated frequently. For example:
"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."
- Coco Chanel
1 to 3 smaller photos that will feature additional members – size is up to you, but must be of proportionate ratio (either 3:2 or 16:9 scale in landscape orientation or perhaps some landscape, some portrait). we will most likely create controls on these images to turn them into a slideshow so a visitor can flip forward or backward.
Search field with search button so visitors may search our site.
Social badges so visitors can connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.
We have not yet determined a name for this service, but there should be room for our name and logo, which for now, can be a placeholder image of some sort.
We recognize that the visual appeal of this site is largely based on the featured images. Please pick high fashion/glamour/beauty photos as image placeholders.
While we have made some suggestions of what we think we want to see, we would like to provide you with full creative control on the positioning and style of any element so that we are keeping an open mind to all design considerations.
In fact, another idea we have takes us in a whole other direction, which is to make the home appear like a photo exhibit (search for this term in Google Images to draw inspiration).
The deliverable must be a layered PSD file. Working with us on the home may provide you with the opportunity to work with us exclusively to design the pages for the rest of the site as well as our logo.
Please keep in mind that this is a fashion forward crowd with an eye for design, so every last aesthetic detail will be scrutinized. We are catering more to female models with an interest in runway, high fashion, glamour and beauty, so our sweet spot is females between the ages of 18-24.
