yWorks got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Hidden-Champion-Website-Relaunch - searching for an unconventional look

We offer diagramming sdks and diagram editor tools. Our clients are companies like Amazon, Daimler, Facebook, Google, Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC) but also smaller Tech Companies, or banks, and many more. Everyone who works with related data is our possible client.
yworks.com (thewebsite is nearly 7 years old)
modern, outstanding, colorful, professional, clear, structured
Homepage, Productpage, any other page The content is in the first step not essential. We are searching at this time for the best look & feel design. On the homepage we need the navigation with 3 or 4 main topics. we need a place to present our graphs and news. We need to present news and updates. Topics like data visualization. Our hero product yFiles the diagramming SDK. And other tools and applications like Graphity or yED.
The new yWorks website should not look like a wordpress theme. Feel free to go new design ways. The old design is not relevant anymore. Website structure: There are different approaches to the structure of our new website, but the one we are currently pursuing is, that there are five main categories. Each of them has his own color theme and his own menu. They are almost like separate websites, but you can switch from one to another (the user needs to be aware of the other categories). The idea behind this is, to create a better experience for people who are mainly interested in one of these categories (clear menu), but still allow the users to switch to the other parts, since some aspects are connected over different categories. One possibility to realize that is, that these categories only show at the top of the website, but doesn't show as a fixed menu, as you scroll down the site (in contrast to the site menu of each category). However, it's totally up to you, to find a different/better approach. We appreciate new ideas on that. Have a look at the attached visualization (Design Briefing.png), which describes the categories in more detail. General design information: We like it if you use more colors besides our main colors orange and blue. We like organic shapes for the background. You can try to use the shapes of our logos. Please try to avoid the use of hairlines. Or convince us, that they are brilliant! (wink) We like to see more graph visualizations. As pictures and design elements. Try to use the full size of the computer screen. / The background design should use the full width of the browser window. (A lot of our website visitors use their browser fullscreen on their desktop computers.)
