SarahW got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Help Kiryat Shemona Foundation with a new website design

Our client is a non profit organization based in the US and Israel. The parent company raises funds to support a Yeshiva which is a very unique institution that provides young men serving in the Israeli Defense Forces the opportunity to continue their religious education while completing their mandatory army service at the same time. They also provide various community services and support programs for the adjoining community.
IMPORTANT: We need you to design in WORDPRESS format. Once the designs are completed we will code the website using wordpress, so please keep this in mind when designing. VERY IMPORTANT! We have included further specs on how to design below. The organization is divided into two parts. The Foundation (which oversees the fundraising) and the Yeshiva (which oversees the programs). Our website needs to address both aspects of the organization. The landing page will be a portal for both and we want people to experience the scope of what the organization does, through the landing page first. Then from here on they can navigate the site, to find out more specific information about the Yeshiva, their programs, their history etc. Landing Page (PAGE 1): We want it to be inspired by the design of www.du.edu where there is a selection of x amount of pictures rotating that fill the entire screen space. We want to give people an experiential tour of the organization, the location and their programs. 1)It should be a big picture that rotates (we will have approximately 6 pictures rotating) 2)There should be text column overlaying the picture at the left, with a design contrast so that it's easily readable, and at the same time doesn't take away from the image. Here is where the content and information related to the image will go. 3)As the images rotate, the text will rotate with the images. 4)Logo at the top left corner of images 5)Icon links to Youtube, Twitter and Facebook pages of the organization at the top right corner of the images 6)navigation links at the bottom of the images (on a line - aligned with the image frame) - we will have aprox 6 links. 7)links are: news, community programs, about the yeshiva, meet the soldiers, contact, 8)We have included 2 high res pics that you can use as temp for the pages. Please use mthermon.jpg for Landing Page and the other one for PAGE2. PAGE 2: This will be the navigation template for all subsequent pages where information is found. It should follow the same design elements/ideas/color scheme as the landing page, but in a concise manner. We want: 1)A banner (the picture will change for every page) 2)logo on the top left of banner (static) 3)Facebook, Twitter and Youtube icon links on top right corner above banner (static) 4)Links to the other website pages below the banner in a line (static) 5)below the banner/links two columns: Right and Left columns (static) 6)on the left column we will include all the info relating that page (i.e news/about the yeshiva/meet the soldiers etc). The information on this column will change on every page. 7)column on the right will have a video and donation link which will remain static throughout the site. Video should be viewable while on the column itself, so the width of the column should allow this.
We would like it to be an emotional experience through the images that we are supplying. People should feel like they are entering Kiryat Shemona (which is a town in Israel). We are not looking for it be all business as usual. We want people to be compelled to click through it, to feel the images, to browse through it. We want people to be able to navigate easily and each image should feel like a new experience. We are not looking for a busy website with a lot of content scattered around. We want people to be able to "see" and "feel" our story through the images paired with our content. Website has to have a solid feel. We want something classy, that feels modern. We want it to have an interesting combination of colors. It could be: Brown and Red Turquoise and Red Red and Yellow An interesting green (not kaki and not neon) Light grey We don't want it to look like a corporate design. We want it to maintain the integrity of the design and its relationship to Israel, and not in any way have it be whimsical, caricature, or childish. We are NOT looking for primary colors. We want a sophisticated color pallet. The website is mainly for a sophisticated American audience. Our goal is to compel people to get involved with the organization and their programs and donate to the cause. Demographics: 35-70 / Upscale ----- TECHNICAL SPECS 1) Different states of navigation items (rollover state, active state, normal state) should be presented in different layers. Please make sure the text elements are layered as well (not rasterized). 2) Most preferable format - PSD files 3) The files should be in RGB color scheme. 4) Concerning the resolution, 72 pixels/inch minimum requirement. 5) Concerning the files dimension, it is preferable that the content part would be 1000px or less to avoid a horizontal scroll bar which would appear on users' screens of a 1024x768 resolution 6) Also make sure you have web fonts in your design files.
