YardSaler
We're a small team building a website and framework that allows people to easily list and find yard sales. (Sale by a private person where they put all things for sale on their lawn and sell things for very cheap. Tends to be used, small things.)
There are two sides to our audience:
1. People looking for yard sales near them.
2. People listing a yard sale so it can be found.
Both groups range from very skilled to very unskilled with computers. The site design needs to be very simple and inviting so that it's easy for a novice to use. Most users will decide whether to use us or a competitor based largely on how inviting the website is and how easy it is for them to quickly find or quickly list the yard sale of interest.
Yard sales will have a location (maybe neighborhood or city like craigslit) or a map. They will have some category (electronics / housewares / books) like that.
Finders will have a post code or zipcode and a "range" or "tolerance" of how far they are willing to go.
We have no preconception of colors or logos or anything else so you can use your imagination completely.
i like things like OneRiot.com where the search box is big and good for stupid people.
need a home page designed that can easily draw people in and get them started. needs to address both audiences and be friendly.
in just a couple of choices and a single mouse click the users should have their yard sale listed or have a list of interesting yard sales to choose from.
Simplicity is going to be key.
