vaughan y got their new web page design by running a design contest:
A fun blog for kids who want to learn about robots, nano, code, design and the future of tech
Check out vaughan y's Web page design contest…
We are a charitable trust that inspires kids to get into a tech career, whether is is nano-, bio-, wearable-, robo-, future- or hi-tech. Generally school students (ages 12 to 18) and educators. We go to schools and give talks about tech, and practical fun demonstrations of cool shit. Like SCIENCE! Robots, rockets! nano-tech, or tell stories about cool high tech careers in software and design. It is all about fun and inspiration. Not boring old white guys talking about tech. We will be launching OMG Tech labs in various cities early next year, where kids and schools can come play with cool tech and learn how to use it. We also sponsor kids into degrees and travel to pursue hi-tech careers. The website will be simple to start. Homepage (also the blog) About There will be a component listing all the next school visits and speakers.
Bright and fun. Cartoonish. Original inspiration was the old OMGPOP site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMGPop Logo inspiration from the I Fucking Love Science logo. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/t1.0-9/644518_482964478391235_1344225470_n.jpg We are a New Zealand based entity, so inclusion of NZ icons like a kiwi bird would be a good design element to include.
Just a home page for the blog, with design elements for the content, a simple schedule of events, nav, and logo.
What to avoid
Bright primary colours. Cartoonish (see I fucking love science logo) White background and uncluttered with good amount of whitespace.
Make it fun, but not cheesy. Needs to appeal to teenagers.

It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their web page design.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
vaughan y collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
