tord.jon got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Extreme makeover for our webapp
Check out tord.jon's Web page design contest…
We are building a webapp that aims to let users quickly generate PDFs and webpages. (Update: the users (typically companies) will make an archive of 'products' they want to present to potential customers. When they approach a new potential customer they will pick the products that suits the needs of said customer and combine the different products in a bid, that will be generated as a PDF/website)
We want a design that feels modern without taking it way over the top. Interested in a design that takes inspiration from the material style. Simplistic and clean UI. We have not decided on colors yet, and are open for different suggestions, however we need something that does not feel too crazy. Update: Further emphasis on the material design. Without copying the design of google sites (docs.google.com , youtube.com), please consider looking into the material guidelines found here (buttons, tables, slight shadows, corners not rounded etc): https://material.io/guidelines/material-design/introduction.html
I will provide screenshots of the old UI (that looks rather horrible, and does not only need new design but also a new user experience, an easier way of adding and removing elements, editing content). We want to start with three pages, one that lists all the bids the user has created, look at the current version in the image "bids.png". I believe we want to keep a similar style of displaying the bids, however if anyone has a good idea for a different way of displaying them we are interested in a different approach. The search needs to be simplified, perhaps with a dropdown for options. The second page is the "Products.png" page, it's a vital part of the application, but also needs a completely new way of displaying the content. The folder structure feels very outdated. As on the bid page i believe we could use a search that has different options to filter as a dropdown from the searchbox. The products themselves might be listed with name and some information, pax/price/whatever, and maybe display a piece of the content stored in the product (usually a text and some images). As stated before, we are not certain how we want the information to be displayed, so we are prepared to consider new ideas. The third page is the "Customers.png" (it is very similar to the suppliers page so hopefully we can modify the design slightly and reuse it for the suppliers page). The page displays the information saved on a customer, so they can most likely be simple cards, consider making space for a small image, maybe logo/photo of the customer. I want to move the "new customer" part away from this page, could perhaps work as a modal /pop up, but it does not really work out the way it's currently placed.
What to avoid
We most likely won't like yellow or green. Update: I believe we need a horizontal menu, considering the few pages we have a navigation on the left feels a bit too empty. Avoid rounded corners, they feel slightly outdated.
We would prefer having our app responsive, so it can be accessed and used on a phone, however this is not the greates priority. Belive we want darker colors, but nothing black. I would be happy to answer any messages! :)
