shawn.twing got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Ecommerce Website Design - Uncoded Templates
Check out shawn.twing's Web page design contest…
This project is for an ecommerce site that will sell high-end costume jewelry and related items. A successful submission will include four pages, all with the same overall design/layout: home page, a category page (showing many items in each category), a product-level page (big picture of a product with the option to buy), and an "about us" style page with text and a couple of images.
What's your vision?
Desired Color Scheme: softer colors - notice the pink/80% black in the logo Desired Style: see Red Envelope for a starting point - www.redenvelope.com Accepted File Formats: PNG or PSD (fully layered) The owners of this website really like Red Envelope's layout and design (www.redenvelope.com). Obviously we don't want a design that's too much like Red Envelope, but the overall look and feel is exactly what they're looking for. Lots of white space, top navigation with left side categories, big pictures, etc. The logo for this project (as a low-quality PNG and high quality AI file), along with a few product photos, is available for download at http://www.barndoormedia.com/mlb-contest-files.zip Feel free to use stock imagery to fill in the gaps if necessary (keep track of it though in case we need to purchase it after the fact). One other thing to keep in mind - we will be using an off-the-shelf ecommerce application to create the site which means we don't have 100% design control. The general template is logo in the top left, top horizontal navigation, and left side subnavigation. If you follow that format (which is how Red Envelope laid out their site), you'll be OK and we can make your designs work. As I've mentioned in other contests, I ALWAYS pay first and second place promptly when a contest ends. I've never setup a contest without paying and I have no intention of doing that. I realize a lot of work goes into these projects and plan on compensating first and second place as indicated above. To minimize workload, please submit a home page design first with the overall design/layout - I'll provide feedback on that before you proceed to the other page layouts (or I'll save you some work if the layout isn't on track for what the client wants). Feedback will appear every day or two. If you have general questions, please post them on this contest and I'll answer them for everyone to see. I've setup the contest to run for 10 days - that is not set in stone. If we get a design we like we may end the contest early or, if the client needs more time, we may extend the deadline. Either way I'll keep everyone informed in the general comments. Good luck to everyone. Shawn.
