geodesignstudio got their new web page design by running a design contest:
DIYGamer.com, a large video game blog, needs a streamlined design

We are one of the largest indie gaming specific blogs. Our goal is to bring up to the minute coverage of indie video game news to our world wide readership base.

We are looking to have a new Wordpress Theme created for us that will simplify our current offerings and make our site faster to load while also easier to find content. Our current site is a little too busy for what we currently need and it also takes far too long to load, especially on mobile phones where data speeds are much slower. We like our current colors, so please keep the overall theme blue with hints of green as is in our current logo. We'd much prefer the background to be white and for it to have enough space to allow for "wrap ads" a la www.rockpapershotgun.com or www.joystiq.com. There should be a singular 300x250 ad spot in the side bar as well. We do not need a horizontal banner ad on the home page... When looking at the feaured player we have now, we are looking to streamline that section a little bit. Probably similar to what Joystiq and Rock Paper Shotgun have. It needs to be smaller and better integrated into the site as a whole. When looking at the sidebar, we'll need widgets designed for: 1. Featured Game (has a picture, genre type, and a button that leads to our store "Buy Now!") 2. Categories 3. Latest Reviews 4. Latest Previews 5. Latest Interviews For the article section, we'd like our area to be a little more like Rock Paper, Shotgun where a large picture is prominently displayed with all the relevant information about said article is above the picture and a paragraph of the article is below with a "Read More!" link as well as the tag list and comment amount listed. When thinking about the tab bar up top remember... we'll need a "Store" type link as well. Finally, we don't really need a login area anymore as our forums are separate from our commenting. Feel free to reduce that area to a small login/register link up top somewhere.
The winner of this design will also be contracted separately to create a store front so keep that in mind when designing the blog.

And then… they selected a winner!
The job was a complex web app, including transactional and social design elements. Chris did a fantastic job; he was patient, responsive and quick. He also delivered excellent design work and we were super pleased with the entire process. I have never worked with him before, and I was pleasantly surprised at how professional and talented he is.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
