jackkellerman79 got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Designer for the Next Big Stock Video/Photo Site

Stock video/photo site specializing in New York City visuals/themes
dev.nyclips.com (the logo on there will not be used)
I'm noticing most stock media sites use blacks, grays, charcoals, and whites for the tabs and bars that go across the top of the page. Not many bright colors in those areas. Other than that, clean, crisp, modern, simple seems to be the industry standard. Really use the leading sites as a guide: www.shutterstock.com www.stocksy.com www.istock.com www.dissolve.com
Homepage: video player stretching from margin to margin, showing slideshow of different of my NYC videos, fading from one to the next. Search bar centrally located, probably best in the middle of the video slide show. Major category links located below video slide show. Buttons that allow visitor to choose between a photo or video section for a search. Somewhere on page: "videos $5" and "photos free" Video search page: this is sort of a video homepage within the site. Similar to the main homepage, a single video should serve as a banner with category links beneath it or in the margins, and some smaller thumbnails of other videos under the headings: "featured video," and "most popular." And a search bar centrally located for keyword searches. Photo search page: similar design as video search page. Except the smaller thumbnails can be other dimensions besides 16:9 (video dimensions) so the photo section will have a more artful randomness. (I realize I have 6 pages listed here instead of 5… we can skip the photo search page if necessary). Search result page: thumbnails of search results, stacks of rows filling the majority of the page, with category links in the left margin, and a search bar conveniently located for keyword search. Video product page: for video product, a video player similar in size to http://www.shutterstock.com, http://www.pond5.com, http://www.dissolve.com product page video players, showing video product with watermark of logo. To the right of the player, several formats are offered with their respective prices: small web: free HD 1920x1080: $5 4K 4096x2304: $20 STILL SHOT 1920x1080: $1 STILL SHOT FULLSIZE: $5 Photo product page: similar to video product page, a large thumbnail of photo, around the size of the video player, with watermark of logo, but with one size/price offered to the right of image: whatever the dimensions are of the image (5032x3451 for example): $5
What to avoid
I want to avoid this looking like a corporate business website. Right now it looks very clean and modern, but not enough like a creative media marketplace site.
my main competition is: www.dissolve.com www.shutterstock.com www.pond5.com I want my presentation to be on par with: www.stocksy.com www.dissolve.com www.shutterstock.com
