IBDCoach got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Design a stunning new website for our IBD coaching program
Check out IBDCoach's Web page design contest…
Business description: Founded in 2019, IBDCoach is on a mission to change healthcare by tackling the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in a capacity never attempted before. We help our members achieve long-lasting remission through immersive science education, community support, and a unique form of health coaching that emphasizes strategic, patient-driven, and patient-empowered actions. IBDCoach is the first program of its kind to provide comprehensive scientific information in one accessible location as an essential adjunct to standard medical care. Our initial results from dozens of clients are highly positive: significant reductions in symptoms and disease activity, inflammatory markers down, life-long friendships formed, and lives changed for the better. Audience: IBD patients, their friends and families, their community AND physicians (specifically Gastroenterologists), scientists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and other companies and organizations we’d like to partner with (like the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation).
We want the website to be striking in its beauty, elegance, legitimacy, and credibility, but also exhibit warm, and welcoming, human-centered vibes. More images, colors, and a cleaner lighter website is in order! Design spitball: Bold and striking colors, images, and statements. Prestige. Attention to negative space and communicating with less words (on the homepage but will have enough text to explain what we do in a scientific way). Human centered. Nature. Science. People. Foooood! Web accessibility when it comes to font choices, color contrast ratios, & other design choices is very important to us. We are all about making health information accessible to the layperson, and that includes the mechanics of our website. We have updated our colors from “everything purple” to yellow, turquoise and blue (with gray and red accents). You will see this reflected in our new logo. All this information is in the linked and attached style guide. The founder Andrew is a designer himself (but not a professional), and he’s really been digging drop shadows, transparent overlapping colors, and negative space - but he feels his designs are not good enough for the website and he’s got his hands full with running our company. He did design a recent program guide and poster we presented at the Ancestral Health Symposium. Here are google drive links to our style guide*, program guide, and poster. We have also attached them as PDFs. *you may add or update any colors or fonts you feel is needed or use the ones outlined in the style guide, however we do like proxima nova and the color scheme but are always open up for improvements. Perhaps adding one more font would be helpful, but this is completely up to you as the designer. In the program guide and poster some pages that really stand out to us are the “How we are redefining health coaching” redwoods and blueberries and the stock image of the surfer towards the end. The diagrams are nice too and help convey what we do. The sites I selected below are institutes, I’d like to give off that innovative, prestigious, institute type of vibe. Let’s remember though, that we help with IBD (which is a digestive disease) - it’s important that people know we are helping people with inflammation, digestive issues that comprise IBD. (gut health, microbiome, science images, digestive systems, beautiful food etc) Link to google drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yg0N4x9RBrTzUXu1TBMwDUGPHyyGMbCH?usp=sharing
We only want you to design our homepage (desktop/mobile) and we want it to be epic! The homepage right off the bat needs to communicate what we do. The current homepage states in clear big text: “We help people with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis achieve remission.” Super clear on what the objective is. You're welcome to use that text or modify it. Moving forward we want more imagery, perhaps a hero image on the homepage but we are very open to anything. It’s important to us that people see our recent heartwarming video that you currently see on our homepage - and it’s also important that people are directed to schedule an admissions call with our team. We need some testimonials on the homepage (or links to client stories like are on the poster attached) and links to how our program works. We need to convey that this is the place where you come to when you want results (often if multiple medications and/or diets have failed already - here you will experience success - how do we communicate that?). Additionally the homepage should show: >A graphic of the 3 steps to our program (welcome to redesign or use what we have - bonus point if you show us your capable of making cool graphics or making them better Stop the inflammation Nourish the microbiome Repair the barrier > Featured blog posts > References or sections to other pages (see site map below). The main sections of our program and IBD are: IBD Biology, Diet and Nutrition, Supplements and Herbs, Medications and Healthcare, Lifestyle and Mindset. There is basically nothing about IBD that doesn’t fit into those categories, and that’s why they will be pages. Anything you have to suggest is awesome, feel free to be unique and modify anything that doesn't make sense to you in terms of content, structure etc. Extra helpful information: Preliminary site map: Home About -The IBDCoach Philosophy -Our Team and Advisors -Vision Program -Program Overview -IBD Biology -Diet and Nutrition -Supplements and Herbs -Medications and Healthcare -Lifestyle and Mindset -Blog Contact Sales Funnel
What to avoid
Nothing truly off limit. Don't put pictures of people suffering or who look sad. (obviously!)
We are a group of high performing individuals who are serious about our work. We understand what good web design looks like. Indeed we are designers, marketers, engineers, science writers, educators, and coaches ourselves - if you work with us you’ll find us to be creative, organized, fun, tech savvy, kind and respectful. Please only enter this contest unless you are willing to put the time in to show us your skills and what you are capable of. **Please blow us away with your creative ideas and your understanding of our brand and our mission. Please do your homework.** Design is more than just pushing pixels around - it’s about putting yourself in the shoes of our target audience (IBD patients, their doctors etc) and thinking of intentional and human-centered UI/UX that will guide them to schedule a call with us or tell their friend about us who has IBD. Understand that if we select you and we have a good experience with your work – we have 3 other huge web design projects to work on with you including designing our blog, designing our marketing funnel, and designing our classroom/online learning platform. IBD patients need our help, these folks are suffering needlessly and the results of our program are quite extraordinary. And we need help taking our company to the next level. Will you be that person? Our larger goal will be to expand our offering beyond just IBD to all other chronic conditions. Clearly, we will have many design needs in the future. Good luck, and thank you kindly for considering entering our design contest. We are extremely excited to see your work!
