Travel & Hotel
Karen and her 15 year old son Sterling are creating a travel blog aimed at mothers planning trips for their families, as well as for teenagers and kids who are preparing to travel. SterlingsAdventures.com will be a travel advice blog, where visitors can find helpful tips and advice about travel for and with teenagers and kids. The site should load quickly and be simple to navigate, with a clean, clear look. Audience There are two main audience groups for SterlingsAdventures.com: mothers planning trips for their families and their kids / teenagers. The mothers will come to the site to find travel planning advice. They will be looking for: 1. New destinations / ideas for family vacations 2. Tips / suggestions for a specific destination 3. General travel planning advice that can be applied to any trip Kids / teenagers will come to the site for two main reasons: 1. To find information in preparation of a trip 2. To discover new destinations to suggest to their families
Design Specifications The client would like the website to incorporate a good amount of white space and to have clear tabs (with drop downs) for navigation around the website. The client has provided a rough sketch for the future logo of the website. Information (and the sketch) can be found below. Logo A link to the rough sketch of the logo is below. The line represents a wave that turns into a globe and then goes back to a wave. A person is walking this wave (carrying suitcase behind) towards the globe. The word “Sterling’s” is above the globe and “Adventures” is below. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qld3g04fagkj14a/SA%20logo%20development.jpg?dl=0 Color One of the main colors for the website should be a royal blue. See the 2 photos below for the color blue they like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/irz0czp9muie9pf/IMG_4712.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/syqgxhelti29xle/Screen%20Shot%202017-07-13%20at%203.49.59%20PM.png?dl=0 As a secondary color, the client likes the color green. See the photo below for the type of green they like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a6iubgvsi4jwcsi/Screen%20Shot%202017-07-13%20at%203.50.02%20PM.png?dl=0 Font The client likes the Trebuchet font. Uniformity The client likes sites that have a uniform look. Any blog post cards should be laid out in a clear grid. Every picture should be the same size. And the text should line up as closely as possible (while knowing that perfect uniformity here across screen sizes is impossible). Blog Post Cards Blog posts cards should display in a clear and distinct grid (3 posts across for desktop). The post cards should be placed in “boxes.” See mockup from the client below on how these post cards should look: https://www.dropbox.com/s/levn01jampo4rls/Screenshot%20%288%29_LI.jpg?dl=0 Mailing List & Social Media Having users subscribe to their mailing and various social media channels is one of the main goals for the website. These features should then be given attention in order to draw the user to these channels. The client would prefer the social media icons to be placed beneath the main hero section and in their true colors (on the homepage). There needs to be a clear header above the icons to direct the user to follow Sterling’s Adventures on social media. The client does not want to display a social media counter on the homepage. Slider Client would like to incorporate a slider at the top of the website. The slider should only extend up to the navigation. There should not be any overlay between the photo and the text. The text should display right on top of the photo. (See Disney example below.) Navigation The navigation will feature drop downs. The menu will be placed above the slider. See websites below for an example of what they like. Videos Videos will be a key feature of SterlingsAdventures.com (current plan is 2 videos a month). Though these videos will be hosted on YouTube, they should still be incorporated into the site’s design. Users should be able to watch videos without leaving the website. Travel Planning SterlingsAdventures.com focus will be on helping their users plan trips. The site will provide guides, itineraries, suggestions, travel tips, advice, and more. Monetization The current plan is to monetize SterlingsAdventures.com by the end of the year. There will be two main channels for monetization. Affiliates / Display Ads The client does not want to use a publishing network (like Mediavine), but instead would like to place affiliates advertisements on the website. These ads will then be uploaded by the client to the website and will direct users to specific affiliate websites. Sponsorships The client will also pursue sponsorships and would like to be able to feature a certain destination, city, hotel, etc. on the website. Hello Bar The client wants to add a Hello Bar (email capture) to the bottom of the screen as seen on Ordinary Traveler. Text will be: Are you ready to start your next Adventure? (Your email) Let's go!
Please see the attached strategy document and wireframes for guidelines on what should be included on each page (homepage & blog post page). The two pages are: - homepage - blog post page The homepage will introduce users to Sterling's Adventures and feature the site's best content. The blog post page will be used for each blog post. These pages will have a consistent structure and style. Certain elements (like the headings indicated on the wireframe) need to be designed on the blog post page. A video walkthrough of these wireframes can be seen below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bu2cp7ifug95cvg/Wireframe-Walkthrough3.mp4?dl=0 NOTE: Placeholder images should be used in the design.
A style guide with some general guidelines will be attached. Please follow these guidelines. Performance Foundry is the development company and in charge of the design and development of Sterling's Adventures. Please follow these guidelines.
