Medical & Pharmaceutical
We want to advance the cancer research paradigm by providing a means for those with cancer to find the best possible treatments that are not yet on the market. Our website empowers cancer patients to find a targeted listing of all clinical trials for which they are eligible given their specific criteria (location, condition, etc.) We actively work with key opinion leaders in the oncology space to provide our website users the most accurate and up-to-date information available. People love us because they see our website as: 1. Trustworthy 2. The best access ALL available options (other sites direct patients to specific options) 3. An easy-to-use platform Key brand characteristics: Approachable, Accessible, Comprehensive, Intuitive, Informative, Trustworthy, Partnership, What’s Next, Transparent, Robust, Confidence, Conduit, Hope, Paradigm-Changing, Empowerment Our target audience: 1) Primarily patients with cancer (90% of website users) 2) Secondarily doctors and nurses working in oncology (10% of website users)
Our ideal web design is minimalist, creative, and "modern with a twist". We don't want a website that looks like the other guys - we want innovation and creative simplicity. The logo imagery and colors should be used throughout the page. Each of the four colored figures on the left side of our logo can be used as individual design elements. They should pop drive our branding (see www.interceptpharma.com as described in website section below). Each of the figures form the logo can be thought of as an individual with unique characteristics, but they are together on a journey and we are all driving toward the same goal: to provide the best possible options for anyone diagnosed with cancer. Please let your creativity run with it and keep three words in mind to guide you: Simple, Creative, Elegant.
Our core website will be one scrolling page with multiple sections navigable either by scrolling or top navigation. Sections follow. Top Navigation: Links for "Clinical Trial Search", "Clinical Trials 101", "The FDA Process", "Who We Are" Top Right Corner: Links for "Log In" and "Sign Up" Section 1 Heading: Clinical Trial Search Key Design Elements: * "Cancer Type: " with dropdown box for user input * "Zip Code: " with text box for user input * "Find Trials Within: " with dropdown box for user input * Button with text "Find Trials" Section 2 Heading: Clinical Trials 101 Key Design Elements: * Question & Answer style text (see wording below) * Graphical elements to break up text content and appeal to users Body Text Content: Are clinical trials right for me? When you participate in a cancer clinical trial, you are guaranteed to receive either the treatment under investigation or the best available standard treatment. Unlike clinical studies in other therapeutic areas, patients in cancer trials receive a “sugar pill” placebo only if no standard treatment exists. Clinical trials offer you the opportunity to receive new cancer therapies not otherwise available. These therapies represent the most cutting edge thinking among research oncologists. When you volunteer for a cancer clinical trial, Clinical trials (sometimes called clinical research studies) evaluate new drugs the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hasn’t yet approved or test new uses for already approved drugs. They also evaluate new combinations of existing drugs and treatments, and different dosages of approved drugs, or find the best time to begin using a particular drug or treatment. Cancer is one of the most active areas in medical research today. At any time, thousands of clinical trials are underway on new cancer drugs and treatments. There may be multiple trials available nearby. Why participate in a clinical trial? Patients in cancer clinical trials also receive increased monitoring and attention from nurses and doctors due to being in the trial. Other benefits to participating in a cancer clinical trial include: • You may receive access to cutting edge treatments that aren’t available anywhere else. • It offers another option if your cancer has become resistant to treatment or has reoccurred. • You can help further medical research not only for yourself but for other cancer patients as well. Are Clinical Trials Safe? All medical treatments carry risks, even those that have been used by thousands of patients. Not all treatments prove to be better than the standard of care and may produce additional side effects. Yet all clinical trials must meet rigorous guidelines designed to protect you. You will be monitored very closely during the trial for any potential side effects or problems. Also, the health care professional involved in the study will explain any known or anticipated risks to you before you commit to the trial. This is part of the informed consent process. What is Informed Consent? Informed consent is your right as a trial participant. This document will outline the purpose of the study, the exact treatment you will receive, all possible side effects, and your right to withdraw at any point. Signing the informed consent form acknowledges that the trial was explained to you and your understand it. However, you can withdraw from a clinical trial at any time, even after signing the informed consent form. How Do I Participate in a Clinical Trial? You can use our Cancer Research Connect search tool (Link) to find clinical trials being conducted in your area. If you find one you are interested in participating in, talk with your doctor to see if it is a good fit for you. Section 3 Heading: The FDA Process Key Design Elements: * Infographic at top similar to this, but simpler: http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/ResourcesForYou/Consumers/UCM284393.pdf * Other graphical elements to break up text Body Text Content: Every new medication begins in the laboratory. Pharmaceutical companies and other researchers evaluate tens of thousands of compounds every year, searching for the few that may prove beneficial. From the time they identify such a compound until it reaches the market (if it does) it could take 10 years or more and could cost more than a billion dollars. Once a compound shows promise in the laboratory and animal studies, companies apply to the FDA for permission to conduct human clinical trials. These trials occur in four phases designed to determine specific information, such as risks, safety, and effectiveness compared with a standard drug or therapy. Each phase is strictly regulated and evaluated, and the safety of the participants is always the top priority. If there are any safety concerns, officials will halt the trial. Only after a cancer drug has been shown to be safe and effective, or more effective than existing ones, does the FDA approve it for sale in the US. Once approved, it becomes available for prescription. Section 4 Heading: Who We Are Key Design Elements: * Very simple, to the point Body Text content: We are all individuals with unique characteristics, but we are working toward a common goal: to find the best possible cancer treatment options available. We are caregivers, researchers, and professionals. Our mission is to connect patients with research, increase awareness and education, and provide clinical trial knowledge (and hope) for anyone diagnosed with cancer.
What to avoid
Please keep in mind this is a web resource for people who have cancer - no cartoony or light-hearted imagery
Colors: Logo colors are preferred along with grayscale Fonts: Logo font is TrajanPro-Regular and should be used for section headings. Please use Futura Light or similar for body text content. We are aware that Futura Light is a paid font and plan to purchase prior to using in any materials. If you are unable to obtain this font, please use a similar free font such as Arcon Rounded Regular. Themes: Simplicity, Clarity, Effective Communication through Graphical Elements Other: We like the Intercept Pharma (https://www.interceptpharma.com/) concept of using black and white photos with pops of color for branding elements. We believe a similar concept can work well with the individuals on the left side of our logo in the four different colors: purple, teal, green, orange. We are open to other ideas as well, this is just one concept.
