Heiho1 got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Create a web design for Open Source Self Defense
Check out Heiho1's Web page design contest…
OpenSourceSelfDefense.com is targeted towards the self defense community, with an emphasis on application. The site intends to gather content from a wide variety of self defense art forms and publish them in a "open source" manner. The site will eventually sell products and offer online video training. Initially the site will have memberships for Instructors and Students so the site will have a drill down navigation page for both. The site will arrange instruction in a curriculum using Scenario based training so there will be a Scenario drill down page as well.
In order of importance: Visual flow implying action and movement Abstract imagery of martial arts and self defense Vibrant colors with sharp contrasts Classical meets modern Analog meets digital Computer type fonts contrasting with brush fonts
All pages: A top nav with "Guro Talk", Curriculum, Instructors, Scenarios, About and "My Profile" A Home page with a main central image and a vertical scrolling theme with article sections A "Guro Talk" editorial page with a main central article with headings, sub-heading and images. The main introductory section of the page will have a video popup. A Curriculum page with a tabular or grid arrangement of martial arts and self defense classes. An Instructors Page with a profile picture display with a sub-display of clickable images for display in a lightbox. These would be instructor "action shots". The page would have a "Biography" section, a "Achievements" section and a section with link to courses offered by the instructor. There will also be a calender display showing upcoming events for the instructor. A "Scenarios" page with a specific training scenario. This is a list of steps in the training with photos and a possible video link to lightbox player. A "My Profile" page showing basic user profile [username, date of birth, martial arts experience]. The page will have a list of instructors the user has trained with from the site, a list of the disciplines they study and a photo gallery with lightbox display.
What to avoid
No pink or other overly hot tones Do not have lots of boxes like a newspaper. Think Jim Steranko for NICK FURY: AGENT OF SHIELD not the New York Times
The site should promote the instructors and a community for the students.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Web page design starts at $599.
Full copyright with production-ready files for digital and/or print.
