Lothawyr got their new web page design by running a design contest:
The best RE-DESIGN - Online Booking Tour Operator for Sicilian islands!
Check out Lothawyr's Web page design contest…
Travel & Hotel
We are a Online Tour Operator / Travel agent and our website lets people book touristic services for 3 beautiful islands in Sicily: Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo. We need a redesign for our current website. The website was designed when the scope of our work was a bit different and we didn't manage so many services. Today much has changed and we let our customers book: 1) ferry tickets 2) airport transfers 3) excursions 4) car rentals 5) also ask for quotes for hotels and vacation homes. The website also advertises the destination with many informative pages inside some categories. The current design is outdated and the theme doesn't even stretch to full width for desktop users. We are also getting a high bounce rate, probably due to the font size and overall readibility. We need a close look to our visual identity by a talented designer who can build a new responsive theme with a modern, professional and clean look, suitable for a online tour operator like we are now and also improve conversions by highlighting our booking system (read page notes). Pages must be engaging and very readable both on desktop and mobile. Mobile look must be carefully designed since most of our visitors use phones and tablets. The structure however must stay the same (menus, h1, h2, h3). Google guidelines for font size, item spacing (buttons, elements) must be strictly respected. We do not want errors due to small fonts or "too close items" or content moving when tapped by a mobile user. Please inspect Google recommendations carefully before starting your design.
Style must be very modern, engaging and clean. Colours must be a good fit for our logo, they can also be similar to those used by our current website (dark and light blu, orange, green, yellow) however we're open to new ideas. Overall feel must be professional and welcoming to let people dream, discover and book the destination. Please try colour contrasts, very readable and bigger font size enhancing a modern look, be creative with boxes arrangement, design lines and how you display elements, rather than with big pictures. Site speed is a must. Avoid any plain look and get creative.
HOMEPAGE / HEADER (https://www.egadivacanze.it): 1) We need to include a booking form which is composed by several elements. Here you can see it: https://www.egadivacanze.it/transfer-trapani-favignana.html We need to include all the tabs and all the elements in each tab, of course with a good design integrated with the rest of the site. Also, if you click the "passeggeri" field, a modal form will appear which must be included in the form for the "traghetti" and "shuttle" cases. (see screenshots: booking-tabs.jpg and modal-form.jpg). The theme will allow all the tabs to be present in a page or just one tab to show up, or even hide the whole form. As someone has already noted, the challenge here is to keep everything clean so the header doesn't become crowded. Disappearing elements could be ok as well as step by step processes or popups if heavily optimized for mobile. 2) We also need to add a tab for vacation homes and hotels, which should collect the data requested by this other form (see screenshot: ask-a-quote.jpg). This additional tab must be part of the rest of the booking form. We would like to show this composed booking form in all the website pages as needed or hide it, so we should get a good design idea to both show the booking system and the informative content. 3) The homepage can lose the "Prenota Online" sidebar and should showcase the destinations, and keep the current links (traghetti per favignana, come arrivare a favignana, favignana, levanzo, marettimo). We use Facebook Page, Facebook Groups, Instagram. CATEGORY PAGE: https://www.egadivacanze.it/favignana This is the core of our informative pages, in this example we show Favignana, one of the three Egadi islands. As you can see, there is a sidebar which is showing a submenu for the category. We need that submenu. Also there is a clearly visible H1, followed by paragraphs with H2, and pictures, the structure must stay like that. We are displaying a lot of content, the design must make it more visually appealing, improve readibility. POST PAGE/ITEMS PAGE: https://www.egadivacanze.it/appartamenti-a-favignana.html and https://www.egadivacanze.it/servizi/ristoranti-a-favignana.html and https://www.egadivacanze.it/favignana-hotel.html and https://www.egadivacanze.it/favignana/il-museo-ex-stabilimento-florio.html In the first page we are showing a couple of vacation homes people can book. In the second page we are showing some restaurants. The third page shows some hotels linked to booking dot com. The fourth page is a post page. We need a design to include apartments, hotels or other activities in a structured manner, so we can show a vacation home, a hotel, a restaurant or a taxi service with the same table design, within a post. This template will also be used for posts. Basically the structure and design must be the same however the posts template simply won't have the items table but will display just the content that we normally display outside the tables. We must keep the breadcrumb and h1/h2 structure. The sidebar can be included if applicable.
What to avoid
Pink/Purple are probably not a good idea. Also, we want to show items above the fold as early as possible, which means the header must be very clean from useless stuff and space. We are looking at site speed and to show content as early as possible, possibly above the fold, so it is probably not a good idea to include a slider or carousel in the header. The Egadi islands are not tropical islands. Avoid anything tropical. We are looking to redesign our pages, not for a blank template suitable for any website with some squared items and a random background image. You should populate your design with our content and sections and show your idea of our current website, customizing your design for the destination and for our case. Again, not a blank non-customized template with elements we do not have and stock images. Current h1 and h2's must be kept, so if we have an h2 or an h3 and you don't, you should probably include it.
Please take the whole visual identity into account. We must provide a professional and welcoming feeling and immediately be identified as a trustworthy online tour operator through which you can book services for the destination. Also, very important, please respect Google guidelines for font size, item spacing (buttons, elements) especially for mobile versions. We look forward to working with the winning designer for more projects. This is a redesign, so please use our content and images in your design so we can get at a glance how it would look with your idea. Make sure to find a good idea for the booking form and the header design, as it's the most important part. Be creative with design lines if you wish, rather than with big images. --------------- I include here a message that was sent recently to let anyone else keep up: Hi guys and thank you for your entries, just wanted to give you a better focus/highlight. Our finalists will only be those who have designed a proper UI/UX for the booking form. Something that works on mobile and also across all the website pages. If you have not styled a UI but only have a large booking form in the homepage, try to design a UI/UX which suits your design and makes the booking process attractive and easy. I have linked the AirBnB website to give you a example, but there are also other solutions so that users do not have to see a large form on every page (66nord.com is another example of a clean style with a 7 fields form in two rows which is engaging and nice for the user). I hope this helps you with your design, this is the most important part we're looking at for now, along with the header which must be clean and engaging. Let me know if there is something I can help you with and shout any questions!
