majohnst got their new web page design (coded) by running a design contest:
Fun Family Travel Website
Check out majohnst's Web Page Design (Coded) contest…
I am looking for a functional layout for a new travel guide website. It should not look like a blog or Wordpress/Joomla/Mambo theme. The information is the most important part of the site, not the eye candy.
What's your vision?
Tagline: Fun Family Destinations Desired Color Scheme: slightly feminine, but not pink, possibly light green or blue Desired Style: functional, minimal, airy Accepted File Formats: Layered Formats (.psd or .tiff); PSD compatible Photoshop CS Kicaboo is a new travel guide site catering to family travel. It will have similar functionality to http://www.yelp.com and http://www.tripadvisor.com , travel reviews, browse by location, top lists of things to do, etc. The site will be targeting young families, with young mothers (30+) being the primary audience. The design should reflect this. I am not looking for anything that looks like a blog or wordpress theme. Use Yelp as inspiration for what I am looking for. The background should probably be white unless there is a strong reason otherwise. The information on the page is the focus of the site. Minimize the eye candy and increase the functionality. This contest is for the design of the homepage. Depending on how much I like the design, there may be an option for additional work on interior pages. For the Homepage The main navigation should include links for: - Reviews By State/City - Best Place To ... - Write a ReviewA search box should be placed prominently in the design. The search should be a two part search: search for [activity] near [city or location]. Look at Yelps search as an example. There also needs to be a "Log In" and "Create Account" links somewhere on the page, preferably near the top. The homepage should include a large photograph (think flash slideshow) to promote a feature location, list of new reviews, list of most popular reviews, links to 10 most popular cities, submit your review promo You can download the current logo You are free to change the logo colors as needed. I am also open to other logo ideas if it fits the design better. Color Scheme: something simple, with a slight feminine feel. Nothing "techy". Possibly several shades of the same color and then one accent color. Any fonts or stock imagery must be included with the design with all proper licenses. Please deliver a layered PSD file compatible with Photoshop CS. Coded page must be a valid XHTML document with good use of CSS.
