ThunderRoadWineTrail got their new t-shirt by running a design contest:
Create a Vintage, Hip, Yet Sophisticated Wine Trail T-Shirt
Check out ThunderRoadWineTrail's T-shirt contest…
This is for a wine trail called "Thunder Road Wine Trail" in East Tennessee. We are in Appalachia, where it can be awesomely beautiful and wild here. People here do not get dressed up, in general. But our customers (many are tourists) will have money to buy wine and will probably be older (50's +). But everyone likes to think they are young at heart and we want to attract younger drinkers with our sweet wines. So, it needs to be hip and fun, but sophisticated (because wine is sophisticated). Something that will appear youthful but older people will want to wear. Background: Thunder Road Wine Trail follows the original Thunder Road -- the route Kentucky moonshiners took from Cumberland Gap to markets in Knoxville, TN and beyond. So, there is an edge to the "history" - daring, bucking the system, independence. But, we are selling wine, not moonshine. We have a casual, fun, retro-like, edgy logo. I can see the lightning bolt glass or the old orange truck being a central aspect to the design. Our tagline is "Uncork the History". But we also like to call the people that go on our trail a "Thunder Roadie". So, perhaps, the back of the T-shirt could have a large graphic that stresses the "Thunder Roadie" aspect and the front that is more formal with a small graphic on the pocket (our logo perhaps? or thunderbolt wine glass?) Our website is not live yet, but you can use this backdoor link to take a look at our current branded website design (using the elements I uploaded) and the wineries on the site. www.ThunderRoadWineTrail.com/blog I am thinking a distressed look to show age, as Thunder Road took place in the mid to late 1950's, and given our casual lifestyle. Also, design it so that we can silk screen it to keep the costs under $10-12 wholesale (so fewer colors?)
Small graphic on the front pocket area (our logo? or part of our logo). Maybe also the tagline "Uncork the History" if not too busy. Large graphic on the back that emphasizes "Thunder Roadie". Possibly use the shape of the state of Tennessee with the star to show where we are (Knoxville TN and eastward towards NC border). If you can work it in, name all the wineries: Blue Slip Winery Goodwater Vineyards Eagle Springs Winery Spout Spring Estates Winery and Vineyard The Winery at Seven Springs Farm Watauga Lake Winery
What to avoid
The strong horizontal line of our gray perspective road in our logo may be difficult to work with. Feel free to eliminate it or lighten it if necessary. I really don't want to reuse the wine barrel with wine bottle and grapes on the T-Shirt, as it is overdone. I also do not like rigid borders around designs. I would rather the elements "feel connected" by the design. I hate to put too many restriction on this. Have fun. Be creative. Just no skulls.
