Barry Privett got their new t-shirt by running a design contest:
Bear&Crow Graphic Design Using Existing Artwork
Check out Barry Privett's T-shirt contest…
I have Original Art that will be the cover for an album and related merchandise. I want to frame it or incorporate it in an evocative way graphically for a t-shirt. These images have been purchased and I have the rights to use them. Here are those elements that need to be made into designs. 1. 'Sketch 1' (Sketch 2 goes along with this) 2. 'Sacred Outrage' I am looking for several designs and will be purchasing more than one aside from the winner. I am making a Ltd Edition t-shirt using "Sketch 1" and a regular edition t-shirt using "Sacred Outrage". 'Sketch 1' should be paired with a bear paw idea. 'Sacred Outrage' should be paired with a crow feather idea. For each version using the Original Art, I want that piece of art to be creatively framed inside a 'cut-out' or silhouette shape of a bear paw or a crow feather. Attached are these two pieces of original art, along with a sketch of the basic idea. Creativity is welcome if you have other ideas. I like clean t-shirt designs with a solid evocative design. If it tells a story, great. Or it can just be a striking image. I like negative space and white space ideas, but are not a requirement for the project.
Either the 'Sketch 1' or the 'Sacred Outrage' original art needs to be used. Some 'rough ideas' are attached, but creativity is welcome beyond the ideas described to make it better. Those original art files can be used as is, but if you need to render a vectorized or illustrated version of it to suit more graphics needs, then go ahead. ***But for this project, I am not looking for new renditions of the original artwork. These are the highest resolutions I have.*** **You MAY re-align the birds however you like if it better suits the overall layout.** 1. Bear Paw + 'Sketch 1': My goal is to inset the bear/birds image inside of a really good bear paw print, and incorporate the band name "Carbon Leaf". Some of the unfinished crows in the ' Sketch 1' can be incorporated into 'Sketch 1', but I don't want to use the bear that is standing on all four legs. 2. Crow Feather + 'Sacred Outrage': This alternate version of the watercolored bear that is inside of a crow feather or a row or series of feathers. If you'd like to try alternate versions, you may swap main images of 'Sketch 1' or 'Sacred Outrage' with the bear paw or crow feather.
What to avoid
On Pinterest board (https://pin.it/5e9zyl4) there are a few bear paw and feathers toward the top that appeal to me more than others. Particularly the brown leather image, and the black/white one. Lettering - the band's name 'Carbon Leaf' can be represented with typesets that are appropriate to the design and don't have to be something that the band has already used for their name. Something new instead of something that we have already used that is on the internet. Aesthetic - I like a mix of contemporary and rustic design elements and how they make a complimentary contrast. I usually try to avoid really "on the nose" design choices for fonts etc. A mix of classic, contemporary/modern and rustic/organic is the sweet spot I'm looking for. Email me any questions or clarifications, thanks!
