My company is a small company specializing in the design and supply of high quality electronic components for industrial applications such as the waste removal industry. Our full name is Elektrika Pty Ltd, but that need not appear in the logo.
Our target audience is large manufacturers. We will never be placing ads in the yellow pages or trade magazines. Our need is present ourselves professionally, completely un gimmicky, and reliable. Less really is more.
Apart from a logo, I seek a business card, a letter head to suit an A4 page, and a with compliments slip. This will probably be a clean, 1 or 2 colour design.
Ok, many entrants (all?) have chosen circuit boards or circuit symbols as a basis for the logos. Whilst I appreciate the need for inspiration, the use of these type of symbols is very dated, probably due to the changing nature of electronics design.
So try and use this as a guide:
No electronic component symbols,
No Printed Circuit Board artworks,
No lightning bolts.
Think high end software, rather than electronics stuff.
Also, try both upper and lower case fonts, there is no need for the first E in elektrika to be upper case if all lower case looks better.
Keep the design clean, and the graphic elements to be minimal.
Also just focus on the logo first, if its right Ill tell you so you can propose the business card etc.
Ok some further ideas - try a pure or almost purely topographic solution. I dont believe the logo needs or benefits from a graphic element - most just look corny to me. I am interested in all kinds font - maybe even a cursive one.
