Community & Non-Profit
NASVU is a collaborative project between Fort Veteran http://www.fortveteran.org, The Veterans Medical Leadership Council (VLMC) https://www.arizonavmlc.org, Jack Travis Trucking and the Goldwater Foundation https://goldwaterfoundation.org. A veteran led collaboration with the Southwestern Native American veterans’ leadership to create solutions to solve water, power and housing sustainability issues throughout the Native American Communities. The project started in March 2020 with a request by a veteran’s group to assist with COVID19 response in the Navajo Nation for food, PPE and other supplies. Reaching out to the leadership of the Chinle area veterans who requested chainsaws to help veterans and elders to obtain wood to heat and cook. This became the infamous Chinle Chainsaw Brigade project. In collaboration with MDHelicopters: chainsaws, cleaning supplies and PPE are delivered to the Chinle area veterans. Support to the local first responder community were added over time. Per request of the Chinle leadership 300-gallon water tanks were obtained to help with those 30% who live off the water and electricity grids. Tanks have been delivered to three Navajo and Hopi Nation locations. Self-contained power generation such as solar and improving housing conditions missions were added. Non-core missions’ help requests will be supported by the Native American Relief for Humanity Coalition. As the project progresses, we expect more help requests for the non-core missions as well as future non-veteran related programs. We are in process of organizing the project as a 501c3. Fort Veteran and the VLMC are the organizations where targeted donations for NASVU may be addressed to during the transition time. A website WWW.NASVU.org is in process of development.
